How Much is a Sharpening?

Ive seen shops charge any where inbetween 2-10. my shop charges 5.

Im not asking what YOU pay for it im asking what your LHS charges

Rickety Cricket 09-03-2009 10:34 AM

~$10

Pog Form 09-03-2009 10:35 AM

$5 'round these parts

IniNew 09-03-2009 10:37 AM

$5.
.....

densetsu 09-03-2009 10:53 AM

$6 individually, or $50 if you pre-purchase 10 sharpenings at once.

cptjeff 09-03-2009 12:01 PM

At home we charge $5 for drop off, $6 for on the spot. At school, I think the shop up here does it for 4 or 5 bucks, but I get mine done by the Equipment manager for the D1 teams up here, he charges "Tip for the coffee fund".

AIREAYE 09-03-2009 12:11 PM

wow, $10 for a sharpening, unless that's some high end stuff, then it should only be about 4-5 dollars

hkyplayer03 09-03-2009 12:54 PM

I pay 8CAD for a pretty dam good sharpening. I'm not sure if its cause of the soft summer ice but my sharpening has lasted about a month and I'm on the ice 3 times a week. It's got about 1-2 weeks left until I sharpen again.

Anyone else have their sharpenings last longer cause of the soft summer ice?

cptjeff 09-03-2009 03:28 PM

Yup, and I go down in hollow to improve glide, which also extends the sharpening.

CuteHockeyBunny 09-03-2009 03:39 PM

4$ and a very good sharpening at that.

robmneilson 09-03-2009 04:55 PM

I live in NYC so the sharpenings are expensive. Figure 11-12 bucks for a teenager at the rink to sharpen your skates, but I go to West Side Skates (www.wsskates.com) where it's $16.50...expensive, but these guys do a really amazing job.

NigelSPNKr 09-03-2009 05:14 PM

Flat bottom is about 8 bucks. If you spend enough time in a particular shop and spend enough dough, eventually you may get sharpenings free more often then not

Ti-girl 09-03-2009 05:34 PM

5, it's the shop at the rink. The guy does a really good job and knows how I like my skates. I'm an edge skater and usually get them done ever 2 games.

Really? I like a bit of dullness myself, every 5-6 games/skates

raganblink 09-03-2009 07:17 PM

4 - week
5 - weekend
7 - if they are new skates that they didn't get from us

Will probably raise our prices to 5 during week and 6 on weekend, as our energy bill has gone up every month since February. (roughly same energy used, but costs more for it)

Cyclone Taylor here has a seasons skate pass thats $39.99 and you can sharpen as much as you want for the whole season.

Its a great deal, I get it every year.

Damn... my rink at home charges $11 for a sharpening and it's nothing special.

At school the team gets 'em for free but I skate with a pretty flat hollow and still don't get them sharpened very often at all.

Hockeyfan68 09-03-2009 09:52 PM

Placebo Effect 09-03-2009 10:18 PM

The Hockey Shop does as well, not sure the price though. They also have a $15 card for 5 sharpenings.

FYI, the unlimited pass at the Edmonton location goes for $50.

Still a really good deal, especially if you get your skates sharpened often.

...and to answer the original question, we charge $5 for a sharpening.

I would have to agree. If you are a regular of mine, and you are always enjoyable to deal with, I'll gladly give someone a free sharpening. My way of saying thanks. People appreciate the gesture and will in all likelihood come back often.

...on the other hand, if you're always in a bad mood, never have anything good to say, never smile, ask for discounts constantly, good luck getting a free sharpening from me... :p:

The Tikkanen 09-03-2009 11:54 PM

$8-10 at the rinks I play at in SoCal. Seems like it has gone up in price over the last year.

bmxer 09-04-2009 06:22 AM

Most places charge 5-6$ around Ottawa and 8-10 in New Zealand.

FLYLine24 09-06-2009 11:55 AM

About 8 bones.
