What's been lost....

Can be found?

I got bored today and calucated the goal and point totals for each position and I asked myself a simple question. "Can what's been lost be replaced?"

First defensemen: Lost: 8 Goals, 19 assists, 27 points

The question is can Laakso, Sulzer, Franson, and Blum combined replace the above total? I say easily even as rookies. I expect 10-15 goals from the three defensemen and possibly 30-35 assists. It's not much but it is an improvement.

Now forwards: 28 Goals, 41 assists, 69 points

The team didn't lose much with the players lost, (Nichol, Fiddler, Bonk) Now the question becomes can this be replaced? What excites me is the possiblity of Wilson showing the team yes he can play and a 3rd line of Jones-Wilson-Ward. A big line that can score. Even with this, can they make up the 28/41/69 ? This is the biggest question for success.

I personally think they can/ will. Its not an unobtainable number. Its gonna come down to who they play with and how well they mesh together. They may make up the deficate in points, but how about plus minus. Completely different question to ponder. We'll see in just a few weeks.

I have no questions about replacing the offense we lost. I do have questions about creating the offense we didn't have.

and hopefully hold serve on defense.

I seem to recall a conversation like this before last season. The offense didn't turn out so well after that debate. Should make it a bit easier to at least match that outing, right?

This is still a Barry Trotz team. We'll hold serve on defense, even if it means playing Goc and Guite on the third line.
