Redden/Prospal for Briere/Jones

Rangers reunite Drury/Briere/Kotalik. Flyers bring back Prospal at a bargain, plus gain some cap space. Jones becomes a 1 year defensive stop gap for the Rangers. Redden escapes the Garden Boo birds and perhaps builds on what has looked like a solid pre-season. Also, Rangers would lose cap space and have to go with a 20 man Roster.

ECL 09-25-2009 12:35 AM

lolwut?

No.

OverTheCap 09-25-2009 12:40 AM

If we're going to lose cap space, then there's zero point in doing this.

Briere's contract is probably worse than Redden's. He has 6 years remaining as opposed to Redden's 5, and the guy cannot stay healthy. To be honest, I think the Flyers played better without Briere last season.

FromTheSide 09-25-2009 12:55 AM

Yes lets give you 6mill and bring in 8mill thats a nice deal.

zarao 09-25-2009 12:56 AM

So what if he goes down for a season. We've already taken a gamble with Gaborik. If he goes down you give Grachev a shot. You don't think he could do more for this team than Redden? Picture the heart of the 2006 Buffalo team plus Gaborik/Staal/Lundqvist.

:amazed::amazed::amazed::amazed::amazed::amazed:

WHAAAATTTTT!!!

where is the logic behind this???

So its no big deal, lets take on more money and take a chance with an injury proned Briere since we're already taking a chance with gaborik? That's basically what you are saying. No big deal we can replace him with grachev if he gets hurt. This is insanity at its best. Prospal has played pretty well for us so far and hasnt had any recent problems with injuries in the last few years, ANDDD we got him on the cheap right now!! Lets ship him to philly, bring in a smaller briere to add to our glass collection of players. :shakehead I love gabby and I believe he'll be healthy this year...but you dont go and take such a huge risk with two players, and in a span of a few months albeit.

Just no, please top.

Inferno 09-25-2009 02:33 AM

Briere is a significantly better player than Redden. Not just a little...a helluva lot. The guy has some of the most gifted hands in hockey...maybe even the best. Id be interested in a Briere-Redden swap straight up....id change the secondary pieces though if they must be included.

Inferno 09-25-2009 02:59 AM

A pretty average season for Danny Briere is 30 goals, 40 assists, 70 points. Outside of Marian Gaborik, nobody on our team even comes close to his offensive production. The only problem is our glut of forwards. Youd almost have to trade one of our forwards and take back a defenseman from them...i just dont like the proposed deal. Would much rather deal Enver Lisin and get back someone else on D.
Lets also keep in mind that Brieres cap hit is exactly the same as Reddens.

I cant believe anyone here wouldnt do that deal straight up.

Redden, Lisin and Sangs for Briere and Coburn ;-)

Khelvan 09-25-2009 03:07 AM

Prospal hasn't even played a single game for the Rangers after signing his contract. He's not going anywhere any time soon.

I just want to add my lol @ how someone found a way to move Redden, yet still LOSE cap space lols :yo:

I'll say it again, Redden and Briere have the same cap hit.

In the end who is the better player? Briere or Redden?

We would win that deal.

briere is worse than redden defensively and more injury prone than gaborik for the last 2 seasons

FromTheSide 09-25-2009 05:07 AM

^Thats straight from a flyers post by the way on their board.

Garbage Goal 09-25-2009 05:17 AM

You guys are severely underrating Briere. It's amazing how much flak a PPG forward gets because of the length of his contract.

Both sides say hell no to this deal. Only interesting part from the Flyers perspective is Prospal and he's definitely not worth losing Briere. No reason for the Rags to do this, especially if they're losing cap space.

chaosof99* 09-25-2009 05:17 AM

The Flyers say: WTF?! No way. Are you nuts?

Briere looks very good in the Preseason so far and also looks very hungry. Jones is not really a problem for us and if they need to get rid of him there are by far better options than this trade. Redden is a waste of space and the Flyers have absolutely no interest in him and if they wanted Prospal they would have signed him in Free Agency.

who cares if he looks good if you can't even afford him,or did you guys forget theres a salary cap?

Even if by some ridiculos miracle redden=/=briere was a stale mate, why in the world would we want Jones? we have 8 billion D candidates already.

Briere is a proven PPG forward. Not sure how you can't get your head around that.

If you think that we can't afford Briere then you honestly have no clue what the Flyers cap situation is

How does Redden not at least equal Briere? Briere is a proven PPG forward.

The guy you quoted said nothing about wanting Jones. He said that there's other ways we can get rid of him (which is true). We can waive him or buy him out. Either/or.

Never said briere wasin't a "PPG Player" get THAT through your head. What he IS NOT is healthy and we already have a guy like that on our team who's trying to recover.

Finally , i never said redden was better overall and vise versa.Way to go with that champ.

NYRSchrute217 09-25-2009 06:44 AM

Oh dear. This deal makes no sense for either team.

pld459666 09-25-2009 08:47 AM

.

I like Brieire, I don't like Redden.

I'd decline this deal as well.

We already have 2 7+ million dollar deals up front. Adding another while not addressing our defence would be a mistake.

Daniel is 10 times the player that Redden is, and if our Defence was sound and there was a way to add Daniel, I would try to do that. Unfortunately, that is not the case here.

Not a deal that makes much sense in my opinion.

rangerjoe 09-25-2009 09:33 AM

No offense to the originator of this thread, but it's flat-out silly.

Why would we want to already get rid of Prospal? Torts wanted him. I understand trying to dump Redden, but why would we want to absorb another high-salaried player in Briere, who hasn't played an injury-free season in awhile?

Makes zero sense from almost ever angle.

What's 100% BS about it?

Briere is definitely worse than Redden defensively and was about as injured as Gaborik was over the last two years. While he's not MORE injured than Gabby, his injury history is pretty terrible.

So, if anything, it's only about 30% BS.

I am not going to go into Redden and his play on D. You like it? Fine. You are like most Rangers fans suppose to like it.

Briere is definitely not MORE injured then Gabby.

So yes, 100% BS.
