Ice Terminology

Does anybody know what it means if the ice is "bouncie"?

qwertysac 10-07-2009 11:17 PM

I've never heard that before - "the puck is bouncy" maybe?

Either way i'm assuming it just means the ice is bad and it's making the puck bounce around.

i'm asking because my dad works at the Staples Center and he showed me the ice report and thats what it said. I personally think they are just making excuses, because the away team usually says "fair" or "good".

It means the puck won't settle down and is always flopping around bouncing.

Some people call the ice "chewy" when it is like that.

I usually say "geeez this ice sucks tonight"

pretty much sums it up

It's bouncy, and it means the ice is warm and blades cut deeper, causing ruts and such that make the puck bounce all over the place.

'The ice sucks' is a common way of describing it.

The worst is when skating on ice feels like rollerblading on gravel...

...I find that after those all-day tournaments the local rink's ice is usually pretty torn up.

For the record, I have never heard anybody call the ice bouncy.

A common occurrence here in sunny Florida. We call it slush puppy. The humidity makes it very difficult to get consistently good ice here.
