Lightning interested in Sergei Kostsitsyn

Not sure if you guys saw this cause it wasn't on RDS or Le Journal de Montreal, but Spector is reporting that the Lightning are apparently interested in Sergei.

For those of you who aren't familiar with Spector, he's a reliable write who rarely posts trade rumours of his own, only reports the credible ones. So this could have legs.

Scroll down to the last paragraph and read Spector's note. Thought I'd share.

I'd say many a team would be interested in picking him up, as long as they give up basically nothing for him. **** that!

Lecavalier for Sergei Kostitsyn (E4):sarcasm:

Sens Mile 10-09-2009 03:09 PM

If Lawton offers a player for Kostsitsyn Gainey should release the name around the league

Fish on The Sand 10-09-2009 03:10 PM

SKost for Hedman

We could give them Laraque if they want as well, but i'm not sure if it would be worth it anymore...

they'll need somebody to protect their new superstar SKost.

uiCk 10-09-2009 03:17 PM

pretty sure gainey lost too much respect for tampa last year to make a trade

Born in 1909 10-09-2009 03:21 PM

Send him West where we will rarely play him...

or keep him

Seriously, there's no reason to trade away another potential Ribero because we were too proud to take him back when he could have made our team better.

Yeah, he screwed up when he originally refused to show up to Hamilton, but he's gone back on that. If he pays his dues for a couple of weeks and can show he can help the big club, we'd be idiots to not give him another shot because he threw a tantrum.

Vasculio 10-09-2009 03:29 PM

Right now I think that if there was a trade, all would depend on salaries traded... on the Lightning roster, for me, there's only Malone and Ranger that are of interest, but Malone has IMHO an ugly contract, and Ranger would add on the defensive depth we have now...

I still think Gainey should let SK rot in the minors if he's not going to play him in the NHL...

agree, for all we know SK can come back and play some mean intense hockey like we've never seen from him before... could provide a much needed boost of positive energy for the team.

This whole situation could have just been BG's plan since the beginning...

Go Habs Go 10-09-2009 03:35 PM

Send him to Nashville, Florida or Atlanta for nothing.

Screw that. Gainey isn't a baby sitter, he is a GM. If Sergei Kostitsyn wants out, to hell with him. 30 points in 108 games isn't worth the headaches, especially with the attitude he has.

If Gainey can get a somewhat decent offer in return (eg: third round pick or right handed shooter), I'd take it.

I'd rather just keep SKost if it means a 3rd.

it's 50 in case your counting

Habs 10-09-2009 03:44 PM

I don't have faith in BG to make a decent trade out of this situation.

Hmm....that may be emotions talking. Perhaps one could argue that is a bit shortsighted?

We're all pissed about Sergei, but I'm doubting any of us would not like to take back that Ribeiro trade. Also Ribeiro has gone on record stating he made mistakes in Montreal, and wish he would have acted differently. I'm not saying Sergei is as good as Ribeiro is now, but he has the potential that is for sure.

It's not short sighted, its proper conduct. Who cares if he is the next Gretzky, if the guy thinks he can go off on tangents because he doesn't get what he wants out of the team, send him out.

Its a lot better to have a strong organization than a strong player.

Pity and sympathy are terrible emotions.

I guess your one of the people who is happy we shipped Patrick Roy out when he had his tantrum. Certainly he was a strong player. We sure proved to him that we are a strong organization. We've been strong ever since he left.

Flamers please note that nothing in the above paragraph says that Sergei is as good as Roy. Its a paragraph about the importance of a strong team.

After what Roy did he left the team no choice but to trade him.
We can be fans of the team or fans of the players, I don't fault the team for the moves they made because of player's demands. Once a player chooses that option there is almost no going back on it. If we would have made concessions for Roy I could live with it, he is a Super Star. SK or Mike Ribiero not so much.

Lecavalier:scared:

On a more serious note, I wouldn't mind trading him for Downie or Fedoruk, I think that's the max we cold probably get for him, it would be nice to see him packaged for Tanguay though
