Glassman Salo - Knee Injury - (Out 4-6 Weeks)

Salo has been injured 28 times since 2000 missing 138 games out of a possible 802 (I think?) games.

So that means he's been injured on average about 3 times a year.

Even the injury tonight; although, the post-game on the radio said they weren't sure which incident caused it, Sportsnet was showing the light hit in the corner.

I can't believe he was injured from that if true, it was a routine hit!

You can't believe Salo got hurt taking a routine hit?

He's been injured on several similar routine plays IIRC.

Saren 10-12-2009 03:20 AM

At least he's consistent.

Meganuck* 10-12-2009 03:22 AM

I feel bad for the guy. It's not like he purposely gets hurt. He's just not built for a rough game.

Karl Hungus 10-12-2009 03:35 AM

Ahhhh, that sucks. Salo makes such a huge contribution to our blueline it's really a drag he gets hurt so much. I hope he can come back soon. Any word on when Schneider might be ready?

The Rock 10-12-2009 08:34 AM

He should just go home and play in Europe:sarcasm:

Ernie 10-12-2009 08:58 AM

thanks for this informative thread.

Tuff Gong 10-12-2009 10:22 AM

This thread should be stickied at the beginning of every year.

Dana Murzyn 10-12-2009 10:30 AM

I wish there was some information about his injury in this thread. But I'm old fashioned that way.

You may be underestimating the number of injuries slightly. According to Cam Cole writing last play-offs, the snake bitten Salo (both literally and figuratively) had suffered 34 injuries - mind you it is hard to be exact as they have plied up so quickly.
Quote:

This was, after all, hockey's Joe Btfsplk, the human dark cloud, who had taken the deflected puck in the eyelid. It was the Finnish defenceman with the panic-inducing slapshot and an improbable list of (best estimate) 34 injuries that have cost him 202 games over his 10-year NHL career.

Sami Salo has not merely been referred to as snake-bitten in his career, he has actually been bitten by a snake while on a golf course in Finland.

Tanner "Shatterproof" Glass.

Sami really could use that surname.

NuxFan09 10-12-2009 11:26 AM

So, any actual report on Salo's injury?

Lower body injury.
Quote:

Sami Salo suffered a left leg injury Sunday in a cornerboards collision with Dallas Stars rookie Jamie Benn at GM Place.

The Vancouver Canucks defenceman appeared to favouring the leg when he left the game midway through the opening frame and played just 2:51. He had missed three defensive rotations and then lasted just 10 seconds on another shift before heading to the dressing room. It just added to a bad day for the Canucks, who learned earlier in the day that left winger Daniel Sedin will be sidelined four to six weeks with a broken left foot and that winger Pavol Demitra has been slow to recover from offseason shoulder surgery.

News 1130 is reporting it as knee injury.
http://www.news1130.com/news/local/m...12_002537_9584

It actually looked more like groin injury the way Salo was skating when he left the ice and it had been reported earlier he was nursing an injury before the Habs game when he missed practise for a "maintenance day".
Quote:

SAMI SORE? Veteran blueliner Sami Salo didn't practise Tuesday but will play Wednesday against the Habs. He claimed it was not an illness-related absence but wouldn't confirm he was nursing some sort of injury.

"No, I'm not sick, I just had a little maintenance day," said Salo. "The coach would obviously address it if it was an injury."

"Sami is fine," Alain Vigneault stated. "He's going to play."

You obviously forget how he hurt himself against Chicago last year..

Wetcoaster 10-12-2009 11:46 AM

The Vancouver Sun is reporting it as a knee injury:
Quote:

The victory came at a price as brittle Canuck defenceman Sami Salo suffered a knee injury in the first period in an innocent-looking collision with Stars rookie Jamie Benn. Salo lasted after only four shifts.

"He'll be re-evaluated tomorrow," Canuck coach Alain Vigneault said after the game. "I think he got hit in the corner and sort of jammed himself a little bit there."

Sami, Sami

By Elliott_Pap 12 Oct 2009 Nuckworld

Sami Salo is living up to his reputation as one of the most brittle players ever to wear a Canuck uniform. He is hurt again, this time it's a knee. His body simply can't withstand the rigours of NHL hockey. Every time he's on the ice, he looks vulnerable. Coach Vee said Sami will be re-evaluated on Monday so it looks like he'll be out for a while. The Canucks have been given Monday off so Tuesday is the most likely day for the Salo update...

We must have the most injury prone players on a single team.

Demitra, Salo, Rypien are all guaranteed to get injured at least once.

xeric716x 10-12-2009 12:52 PM

at least he gave us 4 and half games....

Jay Cee 10-12-2009 12:53 PM

...and people thought with 8 decent dmen would would have the luxury of trading one.

Which is why Gillis' decision to bring in so many defensemen at the beginning of the season is looking better all the time. It's too bad he didn't try harder to keep Lukowich squirreled away somewhere.
