GAME PREVIEW
Season series -- The interconference game is the first of the season between the two. The Kings won the only meeting last season, beating the Isles 4-3 in a shootout at the Nassau Coliseum. The Kings are 3-0-1 in the last four meetings between the teams and haven't lost on Long Island since Oct. 27, 1998.

Big Story -- Before the season, the talk was that the Kings were ready to make a playoff push. If the first 10 days of the season are any indication, they are. L.A. improved to 3-1-0 in its first four games by holding off the Blues 2-1 in St. Louis on Saturday for its third consecutive win. After winning twice with offense, the Kings did it with defense against the Blues, getting a 29-save performance from Jonathan Quick -- his best performance of the young season. They'll go for four in a row against an Islanders team that's 0-0-3 after Saturday's 4-3 shootout loss in Boston.

Team Scope:

Kings -- After allowing 13 goals in their first three games, the Kings clamped down against St. Louis. It was an especially good night for the penalty-killers, who had allowed six goals even as the Kings were winning their previous two games.

''We put an emphasis on our defensive zone, blocking shots and limiting their amount of scoring chances,'' Quick said afterward. ''Our PK did great tonight, which was good to see because we've been struggling the past couple of games.''

Islanders -- Talk about a fragile team: The Islanders led the Bruins 3-0 in Boston on Saturday with just over eight minutes left in regulation. Three quick Boston goals later, the game was tied -- and after the Bruins beat Dwayne Roloson twice in the shootout, the Islanders were heading home with a stunning 4-3 loss.

The Islanders have gotten a point in all three of their games -- but lost two in shootouts and one in overtime. They've blown third-period leads in both of the shootout losses.

''If we look back at the start of the year and said to ourselves, 'We could be 3-0 with a bounce here or there,' we'd be happy with that, but it's obviously hurts to not get the two points tonight,'' Islanders coach Scott Gordon said after the loss.

Who's Hot -- The Kings' top line of Anze Kopitar, Ryan Smyth and Justin Williams has 20 points in L.A.'s four games. Smyth, who played briefly with the Isles in 2006-07, scored a power-play goal on Saturday. Tavares has 2 goals and 5 points in his first three games; he had an assist and a goal in Boston.

Stat Pack -- A victory would be the 1,300th for the Kings since they entered the NHL in 1967. Of the first 1,299, 39 have come against the Islanders, against 41 losses and 12 ties.

Puck Drop -- If nothing else, Tavares has made the Islanders a lot more dangerous offensively. He's one of those players who grabs your eye whenever he's on the puck -- and the unit of Tavares, Kyle Okposo and former King Matt Moulson has been a threat to score whenever it's on the ice. The Kings, who'll be playing at 11 a.m. West Coast time (2 p.m. on Long Island) will have to pay a lot of attention to this unit.

First!

So, Matt Moulson is back. He appears to be playing well with Tavares. I always liked Matt. I hope Brown puts him through the glass...with love of course.

Take no team lightly. Play every game like it's your last.

GO KINGS!!

rapots 10-12-2009 02:58 AM

Yes, early game for a change at prime time in europe. Let's do it boys. Although the look on the table is already excellent, why not take a #1. I haven't seen Tavares yet, really wonder how the kid plays. However Kings are better, stronger and will win 4-2. GO KINGS!:yo:

Late night pregame!

Quote:

The LA Kings cruise on to the Island for some sight seeing to celebrate Columbus Day, a holiday I’m sure is very special to many of the Kings’ players.

They also play a hockey game in the afternoon.

There has been a lot of hype coming out of New York lately. Apparently they have this young stud forward on the team. He’s already a fan favorite, one the Islander’s hope can sustain their franchise which has fallen so far from grace.

I don’t know what all the excitement is about. Kyle Okposo is a fun player, but he’s not that special…

Or maybe they meant John Tavares.

The 1st overall draft pick in 2009 with the the wicked shot and the lazy eye already has a couple of goals and assists, good for 5 points and the team scoring lead in the first 3 games. The Islander’s have lost all of those games, giving up leads in each one.
from http://lakingsnews.com

remember the last game in the Isle?

I'll take one repeat please, minus the overtime.

kingsholygrail 10-12-2009 03:47 AM

I only got to see the excitement of the last game on my blackberry through a recap. :D

Hope it's a good one! I want the Kings to be 4-1!

When's the last time they won more than 3 straight?

Got great seats to watch this one... also a double header, because afterwards we are heading to MSG to watch the Rangers lose to the Leafs.

Anybody else ever hit 2 games in one day?

I was going to do the same thing but the press box was all booked up at MSG, so I'm taking an earlier bus home.

Am I the only one who dosen't like the Greene-Scuderi pairing on anything other than PK?

Isles fan here. Good luck and good game! Love watching your young team play and barely get the chance. Hoping we'll be a similar team to you in a year or two.

Except you'll have a true "Franchise" forward. Good Luck to you.

Heh... maybe. Have you guys seen him play yet? Obviously us Isles fans read a lot of the scouting reports on him prior to the season, and they were mostly accurate. He will not dazzle you, mostly because he does not have blazing speed. But he has a real nose for the right spots on the ice.

I love watching Kopitar play. How has Quick been?

Try the"I heart radio" app. The reception is pretty damn good with the AM stations.

I've seen him in all 3 games, he hasn't done anything spectacular yet. but, just by the numbers I expect JT to be among the top tier of forwards.
