Mike Russo, the Wild's beat writer noted it on Twitter. He wouldn't have posted it if it weren't true.

Thanks! Guite hasn't done anything to stay...

If Goc was scratched for being "generic", what has Guite done to deserve a roster spot?

Paranoid Android 10-16-2009 03:42 PM

Interesting. Not really sure why they are doing this. I guess they like Jones on the 4th line. Or maybe Tootoo is close to returning? I didn't think Guite played that bad. I guess he is just redundant. Or maybe they just needed to make room for another defenseman since they can't send Klein down.

jstreet 10-16-2009 03:44 PM

why couldnt they send Klein down, no one in their right mind would claim him.

Guite was very unspectacular, if that is a word.

Someone claimed Rich Peverley. Enough said. Puck moving defensemen are a hot commodity in the NHL these days.

Mostly though, I just don't think we are ready to give up on Klein yet. Which I agree with.

That comment doesn't make sense. Peverley was a forward not a defenseman.

Enoch 10-16-2009 05:23 PM

I bet there are about 20 teams, at least, that would put a claim in on Klein. Yeah he has sucked royally, but he could excel in a smaller role. We are thrusting him into a fourth defenseman role, which on our team, still requires you to play a lot of minutes against top lines.....He simply isn't ready for that, and Hamhuis is struggling to cover his mistakes as well.

Mikka The Grey 10-16-2009 10:39 PM

When will everyone recognize it's not the players that are the issue, it's the lack of coaching. Trotz is nothing more than a glorified minor league coach. He seems to never learn from his mistakes and often flounders when things go awry.

It's time for a change and it should begin with him.

Yes, clearly Trotz is holding back Guite...:shakehead

Comments had nothing to do with Guite. To the point, it's all on Trotz for the play of the team. Legwand and Erat while not producing for Trotz would flourish on any other team.

Player shakeups have done nothing in the past and will do virtually nothing now. guarantee a coaching shakeup would. Shake your head now SLAKE.

What about players that come here and flourish? Name one player that has been held back since theyve been here...that cannot include drafted players since we don't know how they would play in other systems.

A player that left here and flourished (may not be exactly what you're asking for, but we don't really attract great free agents):

Rich Peverley.

Stats w/ Preds:
.27 points per game playing under Trotz (73 games, even). He looked ok the few chances he had with us. However, we placed him on waivers and Atlanta picked him up.

Stats w/ Atlanta:
.9 points per game since he started playing with Atlanta (42 games, +18). He started producing IMMEDIATELY, once he joined Atlanta's roster. Atlanta looks decent this year and have Peverley on a line with rookie Evander Kane. Both of them look great right now.
------
Edit:
My stats above don't include the 2 goals Peverly scored for ATL on Friday. I really can't help but wonder if Trotz holds back the potential of this team. After seeing Trotz coach this team for years, I'm about ready to see a different approach to this team.

RollingPredFan 10-17-2009 08:25 AM

It does bother me a lot about Peverley, that we gave him away for nothing and is really doing well when we can't score at all. Someone goofed here - either Trotz or Poile, or maybe both.

Or maybe Peverley goofed by sucking ass.

Maybe when we ripped Peverly over and over were wrong?

He was called soft, bottom six at best, not an NHL player. Then he goes to Atlanta and their fans rave about his skill, energy, faceoffs... penalty kill. And so far he's at 44 points in 45 games or something.

I think we just saw someone here who was playing grinder minutes with grinder talent. (for a grinder coach with a grinder offense) And briefly played on scoring lines and was inconsistent. So we were quick to put a label on him as that level. Yet now we're hoping maybe someone like O'Reilly or Santorelli can help Legwand get ONE lousy point...

I think we have to admit failure on the Peverley deal. He wasn't treated as if they expected him to develop into a scoring player. So he didn't. And some of us bought into the fact that since Trotz must know what he's doing with the offense, Peverley must not be good enough.

It is frustrating. Especially since supposedly Atlanta wanted to trade for Peverly, and then they got him for free. And now I wish we'd trade any number of our grinders (our whole team it seems some days) for him. How about a package deal with Goc and whoever?

One things for sure, let's hope that whatever talent Santorelli and O'Reilly have is allowed to flourish here. They both had comparable numbers to Peverley (Peverly a bit better at the end but he was slightly older) in Milwaukee. Let's not bail on them just as they come of age.

dulzhok 10-17-2009 01:20 PM

So far Peverly has flourished with Kovalchuk. And it was a good pickup for Atlanta. But all variables aren't equal.

I remember the days when Radek Bonk was putting up 70 points a year. Was he that talented of an offensive player, or was he a product of geting key icetime with the likes of Hossa, Alfredsson, etc? I feel Pevelery falls under this category.

But yeah, he certainly would be better than the likes of Guite, Grant, Goc, etc. And one could even argue Legwand and Erat at this point in the season.

Yeah, Bonk had two seasons at 60 and then one at 70. Bonk was a solid third liner. He knocked in some very timely goals for us. He may be a fair comparison of talent level to Peverley. That wouldn't be a large knock on Peverley. Atlanta likes him so far...

I know it's early and our guys will start putting pucks in the net. But not enough if the only solution they have is the one they keep chanting...."we just have to shoot the puck more". Geesh, I'm tired of that one. Trotz himself says we put a lot of pucks at the net against Chicago. But we had as many blocks and misses as shots on goal. We really threw somewhere in the high thirties at the net. Only 13 made it through, on target. I hope they have something else in mind than just putting shots on net. Although actually on net will be an improvement.

Anyway, Guite was waived, and I wish him well, but I'm not in a hurry to see him back. I can see that he was once a fair player but he's not enough for what we need right now.

dulzhok 10-17-2009 02:56 PM

The other thing- I think Guite has a one-way contract. If he clears, that's 500K down the drain. Not good for someone as cash strapped as the Preds. Especially if attendance looks like it's going to be horrible this year.

Guite is on a two-way contract.

Correct, Guite is on a two-way contract that pays him the NHL minimum for his time spent in Nashville and essentially what is the AHL's artificial salary cap at $105k for his time spent in Milwaukee. By staying at $105k at the AHL level, Guite does not have to clear recall waivers should he be summoned to rejoin the Predators at any point this season...

Peverley doesn't even play with Kovalchuk. As for him being a product of playing with good players... No way. If you saw the guy you would know that he alone is making Atlanta a much better team. The guy has been incredible for us. I can assure you that he isn't being carried by anyone.

He has been a different player in Atlanta. He was emphatically NOT worthy of a roster spot here in Nashville. I guess that speaks volumes about the system here....We essentially waived a ppg young player with a two way game....

The sad part is - this points out to how unforgiving and poor Trotz is at coaching offensive talent. Something many of us have stated for years. It also points out how inadequate Poile has been at times....You know your management is passive to the extreme when the other teams GM mentions how excited they were to claim Peverly, stating they attempted to trade for him just about a month prior...

Ah well, the life of a Predator fan!
