Ebbett Claimed off Waivers
Saturday, 10.17.2009 / 1:20 PM / News
Former Ducks center Andrew Ebbett was claimed off waivers by the Chicago Blackhawks prior to this morning's 9 a.m. Pacific deadline. Ebbett was placed on waivers by the Ducks as of 9 a.m. on Thursday and had 24 hours to be claimed by another team.

The 26-year-old Ebbett had eight goals and 24 assists in 48 games last year for the Ducks. He added a goal and two assists while playing in all 13 postseason games. He had only appeared in two games in 2009-10 for Anaheim.

rrrrrrrreally, i guess he is cap friendly for them but do they not have enough depth?

I imagine they have to make moves if not this year then next with their cap issues

broad 10-17-2009 12:33 PM

Surprised he slid to the Blackhawks.

Hopefully the hawks give him a good home. Just couldn't cut it in Anaheim.

Hmm. Thats interesting. Solid pick up.

I expected a lesser team to snag this guy and really utilize him Rich Peverley stytle.

Nice move by the Hawks though, especially considering they're going to have to move somebody in the off season to get Toews, Kane & Keith under contract.

DamonDRW 10-17-2009 12:34 PM

oh, no... that's greedy stuff

Laus723 10-17-2009 12:35 PM

Another guy for them to fit in their ca next season, he's a YFA.

I doubt he's going to cost much

He may not, but they currently now have around 1.5 in space with only Madden and Sopel the only UFAs. As we all know, they also have Toews, Kane, and Keith to re-sign and now Ebbet, too.

SLAPSHOT723 10-17-2009 12:50 PM

Great pickup by the Hawks.

Does it matter. We got him for free. If we can't sign him oh well we lost nothing. If he contributes anything this year its a positive gain for the Hawks. This has nothing to do with the Hawks cap next year, must it be brought up in every little thing the Hawks do. And Ebbet is a UFA next year so nothing to do with the Hawks cap next year.

WTF, burke has a team full of stiffs in toronto and passes on a player thats better the most leaf forwards, i guess burke really wants boston to land taylor hall!!!!!!

The Puck 10-17-2009 01:25 PM

Surprised Hobbitt slipped that far. Watch him line up with Byfuglien and Hossa and finish with a monster year.

McDonald19 10-17-2009 01:30 PM

Im surprised how many teams passed on him...the following teams with higher waiver priority could have used him: Toronto, NY Isles, Florida, Tampa, Atlanta, Minnesota, Phoenix, etc.

With Chicago's forward depth I wouldn't be surprised to see Ebbett go back on waivers again when the Hawks are healthy.

Isles already have an excess of forwards, they had no use for Ebbett. They are dressing Rob Schremp (:shakehead) and Matt Moulson (:handclap:), while also scratching Tambellini (:handclap:) and Nate Thompson (:shakehead).

Jaffray15 10-17-2009 01:35 PM

Its because of all the injuries at Forward for them:

Hossa
Eager
Burish

I see Ebbett being put back on Waivers after all the injuried players come back. Or if Ebbett plays well they might send someone else down.

Moulson is playing well, but Ebbett is a more useful player right now than Tambellini, Schremp and Thompson.

You are right though, they already claimed Schremp they probably weren't ready to claim another forward off waivers.

Bollands back is getting worse and I think this is to cover anymore time missed by him.

Hyperkookeez* 10-17-2009 01:54 PM

im surprised minnesota passed on him...

Hero 10-17-2009 01:58 PM

Byfuglien and Hossa... monster year.

Hawks offence vs Caps offence. Drool....

Rivet52 10-17-2009 02:20 PM

The purpose of this at least right now is to get a guy to help fill in the injuries in the bottom 6 to Eager and Burish. I'm really surprised he fell that far but I'm not complaining. I believe Ebbett has got some stuff to show and I think he'll help out our team.

Can someone explain to me how this works?

Any team could pick up a player off waivers or is there a waiting list? Worst ranked teams to the best ranked teams or in order by alphabet A-Z Z-A?

Right anyone can put in a claim. The claim from the team that is ranked lowest wins. So this means everyone passed on him.

The GMs hold an Over The Top styled arm wrestling tournament to determine who gets priority.

SpezDispenser 10-17-2009 04:06 PM

I thought he was liked and played will in Anaheim? 32 points in 48 games last year, cheap contract. No matter what, I can't understand this move - even if he has to play on the 3rd line.

Great pickup for the Hawks though.
