Now with Paul Martin out with a possible broken arm:cry: the Devils are looking for a puck moving defensemen.

Any ideas?:help:

DG 10-25-2009 11:55 AM

Brian Lee, Alex Picard, Chris Campoli

All depending on what level of player you want and what you are willing to trade.

We don't need a Mike Green or Shea Weber but we do need a defender who will carry puck down low and set up.

For all we know Lou may just call up.

Not much on the trade table that Lou would give up....

SoundwaveIsCharisma 10-25-2009 12:00 PM

Apparently the Avs are ready to trade Liles, I'm sure Preissing and Clark could be had as well.

Grimrock Alberta 10-25-2009 12:00 PM

Tom Gilbert

Czech Trio 10-25-2009 12:02 PM

But when Martin comes back there will be essientaly no room for that defender anymore.

Our defense looks like:

Oduya White
Salvador Greene
Fraser

Injured: Mottau and Martin

Then again when Mottau comes back, which should be soon, he may just be dropped in with Fraser and Fraser will stay on the team.

nope. Not until Staios and Souray are back would it make any sense to trade one of your top 4 d men.

Well when Souray and Staios get back,
Gilbert or Grebeshkov could be had for the right price.

I'd rather move Grebs. A deal surrounding Clarkson would be ideal, which was discussed on these boards before the season (where my Oiler brethren claimed I'm crazy to value Clarkson that much. Ha!).

Grebs is high risk, high reward, but there's no doubt about his skill level and ability to jump up in the play. He currently has 1 less point than the entire Devils D. Clarkson is off to a hot start, but in all reality he's a 20G 45pt light heavyweight tough guy. I think he'd look great on the wing with Brule and Comrie. We'd likely have to make it a 2 for 1 and move a forward. Can't remember if this is close to what I originally proposed before the season, but:

To NJ: Grebeshkov, Pouliot

To EDM: Clarkson, 2nd

bardownsnipe19 10-25-2009 12:51 PM

Andrej Sekera. But, he's injured for awhile too...

Clarkson will not go, he is doing amazing right now.

Untouchable
Parise
Zajac
Bergfors
Clarkson
Elias
Langenbrunner
Oduya
Martin

I wouldn't be surprised to see Tendenby or Rolston go in a blockbuster deal.

xicethug13x 10-25-2009 01:20 PM

campbell can be had for next to nothing...just gotta take on that big cap hit...we can even swetten the deal with a pick or prospect or even and nhl ready prospect like skille...and we can take back a little salary to help even it out a bit preferably a physical dman....i know the devils were very interested in him before they tryed to sign him when he was a fa

Polaris 10-25-2009 01:24 PM

I wouldn't mind letting Carlo Colaiacovo go if the price was right. Unfortunately, he just went down to injury too. I'm not sure how long he'll be out.

If there is a puck moving defender to be had that isn't an upgrade over Mottau, Greene, and/or Salvador then he isn't even worth acquiring anyway.

And as for your "Lou might just call someone up" comment, I would LOVE to know what puck moving defender the Devils have in their system right now.

Matt Corrnente

Rafalski (NTC) would love to go back to NJ.. I hope.

Josefson for Campoli? I noticed he isn't on your list.

brs03 10-25-2009 02:00 PM

How about Brian Pothier? A bit expensive for a supporting player, but he'll be a UFA so it's no big commitment. This is assuming the Caps are comfortable moving him, of course, and that may not end up being the case.

TheBrokenRib 10-25-2009 02:00 PM

Kent Huskins. He moves the puck... just not that well.

Eckford or Corrente can do the job if Lou doesn't want to jeopardise the youth he's been adding threw the past couple of drafts via trades.

You do realise that we're the New Jersey Devils and the main thing from our GM is not to panic when those kind of situations come up. We are not the Rangers and we won't trade away half our roster just because we had a key player go down to injury. Some guy by the name of Martin Brodeur got injured last year, did we panic, no... did we trade for another goaltender, no... did we finish 1st in the division over the Pens, the Flyers, the Isles and the Rags, YES !!!

Lou will take his time and be patient... did you expect anything different ?!?!?

Bubba Thudd 10-25-2009 02:17 PM

Brett Clark for a 4th round pick.

imayagainknowanson 10-25-2009 03:22 PM

Corvo. Can run PP. Not bad defensively. Underrated player. Some nights he is bad but some nights he is one of the best. I think he can be available at trade deadline for right price.

This. Colin White + for Rafalski.

NoThreat 10-25-2009 03:33 PM

What about Kabrle for your Conditional 1st rounder this year? The condition being the New Jersey Devils have to make the playoffs, if they don't then it's a 1st next year in a weaker draft.

Unless you are just looking for a cheaper player. Ian White could probably be had for a 2nd, but he may be kept just because his cap hit is really low.
