The Times must be having technical issues cause it's disappeared and reappeared a couple times. Here is the text...

Tampa Bay Lightning defenseman Paul Ranger leaves the team for personal reasons (updated)

Not many details right now, but Tampa Bay Lightning defenseman Paul Ranger has indefinitely left the team for what the Lightning calls personal reasons. Ranger was scratched from Saturday's game with the Sabres and did not practice Sunday.

Coach Rick Tocchet said Sunday Ranger had asked for a "personal leave," but declined to say more, citing Ranger's privacy. The Lightning is expected to make a statement later today.

The team released this statement:

Tampa Bay Lightning defenseman Paul Ranger has been granted an indefinite leave of absence by the team, Executive Vice President and General Manager Brian Lawton announced today. Ranger, who missed the team’s game against the Buffalo Sabres this past Saturday, will return to the Lightning as soon as he is able.

“Before Saturday’s morning skate for the Buffalo game, Paul indicated to coach Rick Tocchet that he and the team might be better served if he took a personal leave,” Lawton said upon making the announcement. “After some internal consultation and further discussions with Paul, we agreed with him on both fronts and intend on allowing him the personal time he needs. There will be no further comment from the Lightning or our players and coaches on this matter and we ask that everyone please respect Paul’s privacy at this time.”

Ranger, in his fifth year with the Lightning, has played in eight games this season, recording a goal and an assist. He ranks fifth on the team in average ice time with 20:19. Ranger has played in 270 career NHL games, all with Tampa Bay. He has scored 18 career goals and registered 92 points. Ranger has also played in 11 Stanley Cup Playoff games.

Thanks!

Wow, this sucks. I love Paul. Hope he deals with whatever he has to deal with and gets back asap.

BRichards19 10-26-2009 04:48 PM

This sounds very serious. I can't help but fear for the worst with the lack of information. I hope everything's ok.

gobolt7 10-26-2009 06:12 PM

Whatever the issue is, I hope it is resolved quickly and he is back with the team. He was coming along so nicely too.

Sear91 10-26-2009 06:36 PM

Not good at all... We need ya Paulie.

TheDaysOf 04 10-26-2009 07:29 PM

good luck and best wishes to Ranger. I hope everything is ok.

The Fear Boners 10-26-2009 07:32 PM

I would guess family issues, but whatever it is, best of luck to him and hopefully everything is kosher.

Tokala 10-26-2009 08:26 PM

Hope it works out for the best for him and quickly. Best wishes to him for whatever it is he's dealing with.

Hockeyfan02 10-26-2009 10:02 PM

I echo everyone here and hope Paul can get through whatever he's dealing with. Hopefully it's nothing serious.

Maria 10-26-2009 10:48 PM

I hope is nothing serious, best wishes to Rangy :(

It'll be interesting if the reason actually comes out.

Hope it's not too bad though, the kids too young.

fcpremix88 10-27-2009 10:57 AM

Personal leave is normally for deaths in the family, or for newborn babies. However, they aren't releasing information... so I'll assume the worst. :(

Anything new to report here?

Nothing. The Lightning have done a great job keeping it under wraps.

Hockeyfan02 11-02-2009 12:01 PM

Please don't speculate on why Ranger is out, in some cases it can be seen as libel though I know that's not the intent. Let's let all the facts come out, it could be completely different from what any of us suspect it to be.

By speculating? Can't see how they can sue you for libel because of that.

I don't know if Ranger would sue but I think he deserves the respect and not have us speculate on his issues.

If he can prove that the speculation caused him harm, then he can sue, and would win.
