Oreskovich and Ellerby called up

Oreskovich and Ellerby were called up and will play tonight. Watch for Oreskovich to try and start the game with a few early big hits. He said after last nights Amerks game its how he likes to get himself going.

Ellerby has been skating very well with great puck control.. If given the chance he's not afraid to cross the blue line with the puck.

Laus723 10-31-2009 10:30 AM

For who?

gizmo12688 10-31-2009 10:48 AM

I'm assuming Ellerby will be covering Allen's spot, but who goes down?

hoax15 10-31-2009 11:08 AM

Either McArdle or Repik imo and I didn't see McArdle at all in the 3rd period so I'm thinkin him. Could be Taffe too though

sinDer 10-31-2009 11:12 AM

Oreskovich did a very good job during pre season matchs. He reminded me David Booth when playing his first games as a Panther

Nothing spectacular, but every time he was on the ice, he made things happen

Maybe Repik goes down. That's all he deserves IMO, you can't take the kind of penality he took last night, especially when you're a rookie, unnaceptable.

Mogo 10-31-2009 11:16 AM

McArdle didn't get a shift I believe after his highsticking penalty.. Could be wrong tho.. Hopefully no1 new is injured

gizmo12688 10-31-2009 11:34 AM

I'm also guessing Taffe will go back.

I saw one of the trainers working on McArdle's shoulder yesterday, massaging it or something. Maybe that's part of it? Dunno.

In his defense, he was trying to get the puck with his glove to throw it out of the zone. Just bad luck that the stick came back to the puck and he got the stick.

I would hope someone gets sent back to Rochester with these moves. I like the winning atmosphere the Amerks are developing, and think that it's imperative for the development of our prospects that the Cats try not to drastically hinder the Amerks' progress.

Hopefully theyre sending Taffe back.

Maybe they've finally figured out you're allowed to have healthy scratches.

Thing is, players on two-way contracts get paid an NHL salary as healthy scratches, not that the Panthers would ever make money an issue in a roster decision. :sarcasm:

I'm sure penny-pinching does have a part in the team not paying someone league minimum to sit in the press box, but they're really doing the team a disservice. Obviously, having guys as healthy scratches means you can sit guys who play badly and be able to replace injured guys without having to call anyone up (and possibly disrupt the minor league team, although they haven't missed a beat so far)

Is Allens knee ever going to be better where he can play consecutive games?

I highly doubt it. If he can hold it together till trade deadline we should fling him for a 2nd

Ever? Don't know. This season? No - the team has already stated it will keep a close eye on him and keep him out of back-to-back games all year.

GR says someone is going to be sitting in the press box tonight.

Koistinen maybe.

Georgia Panther 10-31-2009 06:18 PM

Repik sits and that's official. Whether Allen plays depends on how he warms up. If he can't go it will be Ellerby.

i guess you didn't notice that coach had him out there in a tie game with less than a minute left??? despite the naysayers, he played a very effective game and the fact he got shifts down the stretch of a close, critical games should tell you that with absolute certainty.

pretty sure i heard pete say they were going to monitor him and likely keep him out of back to backs for the first couple of months of the season.

teddygmr 10-31-2009 08:26 PM

so whats the story on Oreskovich (sorry i don't know)? On eliteprospects.com it indicates he was retired for two years....did he have a serious injury? did he go to Tibet?
I see he was the first star of his most recent AHL game which probably convinced the Panthers to call him up....

Thanks in advance

VirtualSpree 10-31-2009 09:29 PM

No idea, apparantly the guy shows up to training camp after quitting hockey 2 years ago, and since Deboer was his coach in juniors he was invited

zeroG 10-31-2009 09:42 PM

there's a thread about him. maybe prospects thread? was property of the avs apparently and quit hockey after an injury. decided he missed it after getting his degree and with pete in FL, he knew he had a unique opportunity to get back into the game.
