The man is a legend round these parts. He is as old as the hills but still finds a way to be tops in scoring. Personally, I'd be fine with him coming back next year. He has been an NHL captain and he still has no issues with getting it done.

From Wikipedia:

Quote:

Whitney is considered to be one of the most underrated players currently in the NHL, as his name is not mentioned a lot amongst hockey fans and hockey writers despite his consistently high point-production, which is quite impressive considering his older age.[2]

Whitney is one of only 29 players in NHL history to record an overtime game-winner in a seventh game in the playoffs. He did that in 1995 in a seventh game against the Calgary Flames while with San Jose. Whitney is the only remaining member of the San Jose Sharks inaugural team (1991–92) still active in the NHL.
The Canes have lost 8 straight going in to this one and looked like garbage Saturday. Hopefully the beating they took will light a fire under their butts and get things going in the right direction.

Cole and Ruutu return for the Canes.

Will try to get the lines up in the morning, but we will be tailgating starting at 8:30 or so. Please feel free to join, we will be in the fairgrounds lot under the 'Cold Beer' flag :)

And also, this season is far from over. The pieces are here. The talent is here. We are one big win from getting some momentum.

We play the Sharks, if we can get one here we can definitely get one on Wednesday against the stupid Panthers. It is too early to start writing the season off and banking on top draft picks coming or way.

Be real folks, if we dont turn it around we will not be dead last in the league, we will finish in 9th-11th and get a 'meh' 1st round pick.

Caniac4ever 10-31-2009 11:44 PM

I wouldn't have any problems at all with the team pulling together and winning this one for Ray before starting a new losing streak...

Thanks for posting that classic Sharks vid down the end there. Whitney is just about a legend now for San Jose as he is the only one left from our first ever season. Those first few years were characterised by some pretty piss poor teams with a huge work-ethic, which is why we managed to upset not only Calgary there, but Detroit the year before. Boy do I wish our current team develops that work ethic because their skill isn't getting it done.

Lets hope for a well played game without any dirty stuff.

Lineup for our last game versus Colorado was this (I don't expect it to change much):

Heatley-Thornton-Clowe
Malhotra-Marleau-Ferriero
Ortmeyer-Nichol-McGinn
Shelley-Couture-Staubitz

Murray-Boyle
Vlasic-Blake
Huskins-Demers

Setoguchi, Pavelski, Mitchell and Vesce have been out of the lineup for a while now.

Well since he stole it (and made a completely lame-sauce GDT in the bargain), rest assured that we'll be pwnt quite thoroughly. I predict a Sittlering by one Dany Heatley, as vengeance for all the times we beat his ass down as a Thrasher.

You should get next GDT

OrioleWay 11-01-2009 08:23 AM

Cole will not play.

It's time for win. 4:2 - Whitney, Ruutu, Corvo, Staal.

Gotta Catch Em Staal 11-01-2009 08:44 AM

Where did you see that? Any word on Gleason?

DaveG 11-01-2009 08:51 AM

I thought Cole being out was still prettymuch a given. I know he's taking some pre-game skates in the non-contact jersey but you don't recover from a fractured leg in 3 weeks. If he's back before the 15th I'll be surprised.

Gotta Catch Em Staal 11-01-2009 08:52 AM

On the broadcast yesterday they said there was a very good chance he could play today.

Anyway, I'm off to tailgate in the rain.

dmonk 11-01-2009 09:25 AM

Stolen GDT, bad karma....

You better have pretty darn good mojo Kaberlay. :sarcasm:

dmonk 11-01-2009 10:29 AM

Cole is activated from IR. He is probably not 100%, but the team is desperate.

I bet he is playing tonight.

Pure desparation. Seriously, why risk further injury to Cole at this point in the season. I could see it a week from now but why now?

Wow, I hope Cole is close to 100%.....a move like this gets real ugly if he reinjures himself right away.

Guerzy 11-01-2009 11:29 AM

In Chips article today (based on yesterdays game)

Quote:

The Canes will have forwards Erik Cole and Tuomo Ruutu back in the lineup today. Cole has been out since Oct. 3 with a leg fracture, and Ruutu has been suspended the past three games for his hit on the Colorado Avalanche's Darcy Tucker.

"It's exactly what you need - you need a boost, you need some fresh legs to come in and sort some of your lines a little differently," Maurice said. "We're expecting a good boost from them."

DaveG 11-01-2009 11:37 AM

Can't say the words "fresh legs" should be put in any sentence regarding Erik Cole right now. I'm sorry but there's NO WAY that he's recovered from that injury yet. This is madness.

What the Faulk 11-01-2009 11:53 AM

They said just yesterday on the interview that he was still 1-2 weeks away. This is such a desperation move

This is a game against a good team, we're struggling, at the very least we should see some insane effort from our Canes today!!!!!!

Hopefully that's enough to turn this thing around!

What the Faulk 11-01-2009 12:28 PM

Huh, just noticed this one wasn't on TV. I hate how most of these early home games are not on TV.
