Call-Ups?

Is it just me, or is it odd that the Canadiens havent made any call-ups yet?
Laraque is still injured, now Dagostini is out for awhile.
We have nobody on reserve incase of injury on D and now up-front.

If someone gets hurt in a warm-up or game day skate, we could play less one player.

Is this for salary cap reasons? Because Kosty Jr. was promised to get the first call-up and they dont want to just yet?
Or am i reading too much into this?

Stewart right now is not bringing anything to the table and we could use someone with offensive flair in Hamilton to give life to one of our bottom lines.

llamateizer 11-02-2009 12:12 PM

Stewart played a decent game last night
I think a call-up should be done

coolasprICE 11-02-2009 12:14 PM

It's hard for Stewart to bring anything when he's played only 3 games

But I think they're trying to save a few bucks on salary cap

PunkinDrublic* 11-02-2009 12:14 PM

Huh, Stewie had one of his best games since last year against TO. He will fill in just fine, if the need be they will call someone. I imagine the non call ups have to do with S Kosty. Imagine if they call up say, Pyatt and not Kosty, he will run the KHL. Man, i hate that spoiled little brat !

Canadian_Brewtality 11-02-2009 12:17 PM

ok well i will reserve my judgment on Stewart because to be honest i didnt pay too much attention to the game on Saturday.
But nonetheless im not surprised if he had a solid game, he is quite the re-freshed player and he had to play for a meal ticket.

Still not sold on him for the time being.

vokiel 11-02-2009 12:18 PM

Ok I can feel your complaint.

Let's call Darche up. :p:

newromanceforkids 11-02-2009 01:11 PM

S.K Will NOT go to the KHL... for now

Why?

- Because if he doe's he will be suspended (again) and wont be allowed to play in the Olympics... i think worst case scenario is that if not called up, he stays in Hamilton until the Olympics, then he never comes back.

cap10bfl 11-02-2009 01:30 PM

i know he's been an ass but....

CALL UP SERGEI ALREADY!!!

JackZap 11-02-2009 01:32 PM

I don't have any preference really on who they would call up because i don't know how each is doing right now, but i'm gonna guess it would be Belle.

yup, we need a Bulldog expert in here!

Captain Saku 11-02-2009 01:48 PM

Darche and Pyatt look to be doing really well offensively... Sergei is of course the most talented one, but I don't really understand what happened, was he promised a call up or a trade?

Overcelebration I hear

Lestriker 11-02-2009 01:58 PM

Kulikhov, Del Zotto, Myers are in the NHL, why not Subban?

Not likely to happen imo. If Gill is out, one would assume they would look for a LD and someone for the PK, which would mean Belle. They could use Benoit as he's been solid but I'd rather they go with Belle who's safer.

Subban

if by some crazy unforseen chance (like 3 d guys getting injured in the same game) Subban gets called up, I truly believe he would impress so much that they would be forced to keep him up. The biggest problem with our D is getting the puck up the ice. And thats not just passing the puck, its skating the puck up the ice. The only guy who really does it is Bergeron, and even he is not quite fast enough to out skate guys to get the puck out. Subban is a great skater and could get the puck out simply by skating. Thats something we're really missing. That's what guys like Keith, Seabrook and Campbell are able to do. They destroy the other team's forecheck simply through their unbelievable skating abilities. Our defence is not fast enough, thats why you see them make 2-3 extra passes just to get the puck out. I defended our team and Gainey in preseason that our defence would be better, but i had no idea that Spacek and Mara were that slow. I mean i knew Gill was, but the other 2 guys? I thought Spacek would have no trouble at all to get the puck up the ice, but he's not that smooth. I know its really early in the season but, lets be honest, he's a little disappointing when up against strong fore-checkers.

Anyways it doesn't really matter because the chances of Subban getting called are slim to none. Still, it's nice to dream...

shutehinside 11-02-2009 02:17 PM

I would imagine it's a cap thing. Why call up a player who will sit in the pressbox anyways and pay him an NHL salary to do so. As long as Stewart keeps playing well I don't see a need for a call up.

If Gill is out for awhile, I would expect Webber to come back up or Henry (if he's healthy) but this is the first I'm hearing about Gill's injury.

eddy 11-02-2009 02:28 PM

Although the way he's acted in recent times does not warrant a promotion I wouldn't mind seeing Sergei get the call mostly to see if it'll get his brother going. Its something that has worked in the past and we could possibly even get some production out of Sergei seeing how he might actually be motivated to play being in the show. I don't however expect Gainey to give him the call based on the way he's acted so my next choice would probably be Pyatt.

Took a puck on the foot during practise never came back.

Re: defense call-ups >> Not a chance that Subban gets called up this year - with both Weber & Carle ahead on the prospect development track, they would be the prospects called up first (REGARDLESS of future potential upside). Of course, that is notwithstanding the likelyhood that the non-prospects like Belle, Henry, and Benoit would be temporary plug-ins and press box sitters ahead of any of the kids.

re: Forward call-ups >> Pyatt is clearly the #1 prospect call-up, with Darche the non-prospect option. Darche will clearly spend some time in Montreal this season, bringing both versatility and experience as a bench player.

smitty10 11-02-2009 05:20 PM

For defence I'd expect either Weber, or if Gainey thinks he needs more playing time in the AHL, then maybe Belle?
