GAME PREIVEW
Last 10 -- Nashville 4-5-1; Los Angeles 6-2-2

Season series -- First of four meetings this season. Nashville swept Los Angeles last season, with the Kings gaining their lone point courtesy of a 4-3 overtime loss in the most recent matchup on April 8. Predators defenseman Shea Weber led both sides with three goals. Dan Ellis and Pekka Rinne each won a pair of games in net for Nashville.

Big story -- It's been three weeks since the Kings have failed to pick up at least a point in a game, with their record 6-0-2 after falling 4-1 in Columbus on Oct. 17. Anze Kopitar has surged to the NHL lead in scoring with 26 points, and his 13 goals is just one behind Alex Ovechkin. The Predators won't be facing the same team they repeatedly got the better of last season.

Team Scope:
Predators -- A 6-5 overtime win in Ottawa back on Oct. 22 seemed to wake up the slumbering Nashville offense and sent the team on a stretch of four wins in five games. But the Predators were once again stymied on Thursday in Anaheim, losing 4-0 as goalie Jonas Hiller put on a clinic and stopped 40 shots. Weber and J.P. Dumont both missed the game due to injuries, and the power play turned in an 0-for-5 performance.

"It wasn't as sharp, no question," coach Barry Trotz said. "We couldn't capitalize on our power-play chances. I didn't think we got enough traffic in front on the early power plays. Later on, we tried to do that a little more, but they did a good job defending it."

Kings -- Kopitar scored early and late in a 5-2 win Thursday over defending Stanley Cup champion Pittsburgh. He got Los Angeles going with a goal just 27 seconds into the game, then sparked a four-goal rally in the third. Defenseman Rob Scuderi, who signed with the Kings in the offseason after helping the Penguins win the Cup, was part of a team-wide effort that held Sidney Crosby off the scoresheet.

"There was no special strategy," coach Terry Murray said. "We’re looking at our forecheck game, and a big part of our responsibility is that high third man, is to cover over the center iceman. We ask that against any team that we play, but I think there’s greater awareness when you have the elite player, that Crosby is, out on the ice against you.

"That third guy in the offensive zone, in the middle of the ice, was well taken care of. I thought every one of our forwards, against them, read that the right way."

Who's hot -- Dumont has two goals and nine points in his last five games and leads the Predators in scoring this season with 11 points despite playing in only nine games. They could certainly use his help against the Kings.

Kopitar and linemate Ryan Smith (20 points) have been lighting it up all season, but the emergence of goalie Jonathan Quick, whose 10 wins have him among the League leaders, should not be overlooked.

Injury report -- On the Nashville side, Dumont hurt himself in practice earlier this week. Weber's sore foot could keep him out for a week or two. Martin Erat has been out with a lower-body injury but is nearing his return. Los Angeles currently has a healthy roster.

Stat pack -- Second-year Predators forward Patric Hornqvist was responsible for a quarter of the shots Hiller stopped Thursday, putting 10 pucks on net. Hornqvist leads the team this season with 53 shots.

Puck drop -- Nashville finished 20th in the League last season with 2.52 goals per game and is currently tied with Carolina for the lowest scoring output this season at 1.93 goals per game. It's left Ellis and Rinne with precious little margin for error, and could make for a rough going against the potent Los Angeles offense unless some scorers step it up.

No TV? One of the rare games at a decent time for us Europeans and turns out there won't be a broadcast...

Kings man 4 life 11-07-2009 09:13 AM

Another low scoring game from a injured and turtling team 2-1 Kings

johnjm22 11-07-2009 09:34 AM

I'm interested to see what kind of attendance we get for this game. Should be a good indicator as to whether or not LA is starting to notice this team.

Thursday was a sellout, but that could be attributed to the fact that Sid and the Pens were in town.

mbar 11-07-2009 10:08 AM

I believe this is the only game all season without a TV option somewhere.

Figures it would be the one weekend I just can't make it to Staples.

Bummer.

Hello Nick Nickson...

Well, not being on TV will help.

But, being at 1:00pm will hurt.

I'm guessing 15,000

Welp. We just lost. :(

Never expect anything.

rapots 11-07-2009 10:36 AM

Hm, I see the game on schedule at ESPN360. But that's probably a mistake

3-1 Kings. 3rd is EN.

This. The mistake a lot of good teams make is taking their opponent for granted. It's nice to be on the other side of this comparison for a change though. Any team on any day can be beaten - there are no easy wins...

TonySCV 11-07-2009 11:01 AM

Nashville was just shut out by the Ducks... It think they'll come out guns-a-blazin'. If the Kings lay off the gas pedal, the Predators will sneak out a W. Got to take every opponent seriously.

3-2 Kings in Oooooooooooovverrtiiiiiiiiime.

Nick Nickson - it's all about you today!

I don't show the game being on Center Ice when I went to look at record it.

The same thing happened last year - there was some afternoon game that no one covered.

Jonesey 11-07-2009 11:04 AM

Dan Ellis is supposedly in net for us today, so expect him to play about a period and a few minutes before he is pulled.

No. Radio only. No TV.

Telos 11-07-2009 11:47 AM

Everytime we play Nashville, at least once a year, it seems to be always blacked out. Oh well, Let's get a win and push the lead we have over the Ducks to 12 points :D GO KINGS!

aegwillnotwinthecup* 11-07-2009 11:54 AM

It would be far too familiar if the Kings get stomped today, only two days removed from their "biggest win of the year."

I'm not taking any team for granted, but Erat, Dumont, and Weber all out with injuries definitely doesn't hurt our chances.

Buddy The Elf 11-07-2009 11:58 AM

There is always a Saturday day game against Nashville every year and I expect there to be about 13,000 there. Nobody goes when Nashville plays, especially on a Saturday afternoon.

I hope they win bu they are almost due for a loss. Lets see what they are made of!

BigKing 11-07-2009 12:01 PM

It's going to be a empty building unless there was some sort of family day promotion.

I fully expect a comfortable win....4-1.

RAZZIE King 11-07-2009 12:21 PM

For those of you going to the games and giving to the food drive...I want to ask a small favor from you...

Could you please include a small fruitcake (or any unwanted fruitcake) along with your canned food donations to welcome in the new commissioner to the area???

I just want to get even with him about something he said about a certain bellringer when he turned in a defective kettle... It's more of an inside gag than anything else...because I know how much he LOVES fruitcake...:naughty:
