November 11 updates (posts #83 and 84)

Figured I'd get a thread going so we can discuss this, I know many of us saw it last night in the game.

Van Riemsdyk had the finger stitched. His status was day to day.

The pinkie is a fickle digit. Hopefully, JVR won't be too affected by it. And it's really too bad for OKT. Concussions suck, as we know, and I'm sure the training staff will screw it up somehow. Best of luck to him.

Well at least I can be happy about another long break between Flyers games again.

Hopefully 4-5 days rest and a good cast/wrap can allow JVR to play.

flyguy 11-08-2009 08:52 AM

I hope they don't rush Parent back because of this. I'd rather see him rested until he's 100%. But who takes the 6th spot if OKT and Parent are out? Bartulis?

Spongolium* 11-08-2009 08:56 AM

Pinky finger is fine, just strap it to the closest finger and he should be good to go. It's only broken. Often play rugby with many fingers broken. I know its different with hockey in terms of hands on a stick, but does the pinky really affect hockey that much?

From the article linked above..

Holmgren said that there was an outside chance Parent could play Thursday, and that Saturday was the target date for Briere, a forward. If Parent can't play Thursday against Ottawa, the Flyers will recall either Oskars Bartulis, Kevin Marshall, or Joey Mormina from the Phantoms, Holmgren said.

BillyShoe1721 11-08-2009 09:20 AM

Thankfully we don't have a game until Thursday, by then hopefully Parent and/or Danny/JVR will be back by then. Sucks for OKT, but I'll be interested to see whoever the callup is, I would guess Bartulis.

I broke my pinky last year playing football in the morning, and then I went and played hockey later that evening. It is doable, but the problem is you have to keep closing your hand over the stick, instead of keeping it straight to fix it. Needless to say It did effect my season for the next few games, and the pinky never healed properly because of it.

If Parent can't play, please don't call up Mormina. I'd rather get a guy into the game who has a decent future with the team.

I have no doubt it will be one of Bartulis, Bourdon, or Marshall; Oskars being the most likely at this point.

Again, that's only if Parent is unable to go.

Id prefer Oskar right now since he and Syvret have probably played together

Isn't Marshall the more defensive of the two? I'd value that pretty significantly in a guy paired with Syvret.

Mission used to have those gloves with with only 3 fingers on them, they were wierd. It it's JVR's top hand it would be a bit easier to play with.

Welcome to philly OKT. Enjoy the training staffs crack treatment of concussions.:help:

I'm shocked they didn't give a squirt of water for his dehydration and send him back out.

...shocked.

Kaktus* 11-08-2009 12:35 PM

JVR injured his fonger? So did Vaananen last year.

Lets keep our fingers crossed.

kicksave27 11-08-2009 03:13 PM

RIPRichardsCarter 11-08-2009 03:21 PM

My pinky finger was severely broken and I never got it fixed. It was a bit of a pain and my finger is healed HORRIBLY, but you can definitely play with a broken pinky...come on.

Some good news about OKT, he talked to a Norwegian newspaper on the phone, I'll translate the important part of what he said.

Good news!

DrinkFightFlyers 11-08-2009 04:42 PM

This is why the Flyers need to figure out a way to get another D-man.

I think you misunderstand, this is part of what you get when you sign OKT. And Homer knows, he wants to gamble on him because he creates a lot of energy when he plays. OKT is wild, but the coaches like his style, and I think that goes for most of the fans as well.

sa cyred 11-08-2009 05:39 PM

I gotta say. I thought Gagne got hurt alot, OKT always seems to have something wrong with him
