Welcome, Manny.

:handclap:

dmonk 11-09-2009 07:20 AM

Oh good, at least it wouldn't require a trade and giving away any assets.

CarolinaHurricanes85 11-09-2009 07:22 AM

It only took 16 years after the '93 draft, but at least he finally made it to the organization. http://www.houston-imports.com/forum...s/headbang.gif

I was gonna comment on this when the speculation of signing a goalie came up.

Drafted by the organization - √
Old and over the hill - √
Unwanted by other teams - √

I'm actually happy we signed him, think he'll do a good job and at least it will put an end to the retarded Toskala rumours from leaf fans.

Welcome to the eye of the Hurricane, Manny.

faulkingdynamic 11-09-2009 07:58 AM

I actually think he will be good for the lockeroom too with his happy go lucky attitude. Lookout, we might not finish last, though at this point id prefer 30th.

cptjeff 11-09-2009 08:00 AM

Cheap signing of a guy who has had a good bit of experience as an NHL starter before dropping off the face of the earth a year after being an all star...

Certainly works for a team in our position. And I'm guessing he signs for league minimum.

Gotta Catch Em Staal 11-09-2009 08:39 AM

The contract is two way so we can waive him and send him to Albany if needed later.

caniac247 11-09-2009 08:43 AM

Its official. The Canes tweet said they will be announcing the signing of veteran goaltender Manny Legace shortly.

I'm fine with it. Glad we went the sign route and not giving up a pick to acquire one.

Chrispy 11-09-2009 08:49 AM

Confirmation from Carolina.

"The deal will pay Legace $500,000 on the NHL level and $105,000 on the American Hockey League (AHL) level."

AcidQueen 11-09-2009 09:13 AM

The irony is great--dude had nothing really nice to say about us after we waived him in '97, and now he signs with us.

Being desperate for a job will do that to people for some reason...:sarcasm:

WalkerBabe 11-09-2009 10:22 AM

Welcome, Manny! Now, let's play some hockey! :handclap::handclap::handclap:

caniacgirl12 11-09-2009 10:25 AM

Can't hate it when it didn't cost us a player, its a two way deal and it's only $500,000!

I'm impressed with how proactive they were. Although I guess it's different when its Cam Ward that is out.

DaveG 11-09-2009 10:30 AM

Heh, hopefully this shuts up the Leafers for a while that actually thought they could get SOMETHING for ToskaLOL.

I've always liked the guy personally. And for 500K, why the hell not?

Thinking and hoping are two different things. It's perfectly reasonable to *hope* the Leafs can get somethign back for Toskala... :)

that I agree with it. Still, some of the proposals and the reasonings yesterday that people were throwing out there were borderline enough for me to put my head through a blackboard.

Unless the "hope" comes with a salary cap exemption and an extra prospect the idea wasnt remotely reasonable or fathomable

Sens1Canes2 11-09-2009 10:51 AM

If the Canes get Staal back soon, I think this could be a real shot in the arm for the Canes. As much as I like Cam Ward (I thought he had a chance to start for Canada in 2010 when he was playing so well in the playoffs last year), he just wasn't playing well before the injury. That goal against the Leafs where he just muffed the point shot spoke volumes, I thought.

Legace has the potential to be a big-time goaltender. Let's see if he seizes this opportunity. Sometimes it happens when your career is on life support.

What? He's 36. I think we can stop talking about his potential. What you've seen up to this point is what you get. He's just a decent goalie.

What I meant was, his skills dictate that he can be really good. Whether they've eroded, whether his confidence is there...nobody can really tell. I didn't mean that he might somehow develop into something better than he was. I guess I am expecting [hoping] that he plays like he played when he was at his best.

bleedgreen 11-09-2009 11:18 AM

had this been the canes goalie of choice for backup initially, and i we didnt fall out of the gate like we did, i wouldve thought a lot more of our long term chances this year. this guy wouldve been a legit choice over leighton for sure. if we reshuffle well for next year maybe he'll stick around cheap for another year.

welcome back manny, i think you more than proved brass was wrong about you.

ps last time i saw manny play for us was in springfield MA, watching him play behind malik and jason mcbain - the future of the whalers d. during the first lockout in 95 i believe.
