Ron Hextall - A History of Violence

No better forum than this one to pay tribute to the legend.

Awesome video, he was just nuts.

JDM 11-14-2009 12:13 AM

Such a bad ass. Cool video.

Will there ever be another like him?

overnath 11-14-2009 12:27 AM

The best thing when he scored that first goal (which nearly hit the post instead) was him talking to the press after the game. He comes out and says, "Alright, before you guys say anything, I wantyou to know I was trying to pick that corner."

I think Emery is the closest we'll get for a long time. If Emery ever did the kinda stuff Hextall did he'd be going to the KHL again soon... well that's what I think.

Look for a fight against Felix Potvin, he was cut in that one.

DrinkFightFlyers 11-14-2009 10:17 AM

Gotta love Hextall. Named my cat after him.

No. The NHL would suspend him every other day, and he would eventually not have a team willing to sign him.

But he was so much fun to watch :D

parabola 11-14-2009 11:12 AM

Yeah its kind of funny that Hextall was allowed to do all of that... I think his only major suspension was the Chelios thing.

dustyrockon 11-14-2009 01:53 PM

He was the essence of beast!

kicksave27 11-16-2009 01:59 AM

One of the most intense competitors ever. Before his serious groin problems he was the most athletic goalie I've ever seen, and he was over 6' tall. Also the first truly great stick handling goalie. He actually played better when he was mad, totally the opposite of most goalies. Loved to trash talk guys too. Really great guy off the ice, and yes, he still hates chris chelios. The crease belonged to hextall, protected by sherwood, you entered at your own risk. I idolized him growing up, which is why I was always a chippy goalie and fought alot.

Emery is alot more calm this year, guys don't crash the crease like the used to, and basically know they have to answer to pronger if they touch emery. Though I could see emery snap at some point, and he would destroy them, should be fun.

DeadPhish5858 11-16-2009 07:31 AM

Hextall is by far my favorite athlete of all time. He is the reason I became a hockey fan.

DIEHARD the King fan 11-16-2009 10:39 AM

He wouldn't last one season in the game today. But no one can doubt the man's competitive fire, or his ability to wield that goalie stick like conan the barbarian wielded his sword!

crimsonking 11-16-2009 04:01 PM

He was so much fun to watch, so unpredictable as a loose canon, but damn entertaining.

Yeah, it's kind of a shame really.

This is why I wish that trapezoid only meant "goalie safe" area. If a goalie is more than 4 feet outside the crease or outside the trapezoid behind the goal line, let him be fair game and let the hot headed goalies start throwing some checks like Hexy used to do!

Cleary84 11-17-2009 06:34 AM

He was the man! 1:50-1:59 in the video explains that.

bb74 11-17-2009 03:33 PM

In the "modern" NHL he's would be a Neanderthal throwback to another time wouldn't last thru the quartermark.

There's being competitive and then there's being an ass - he was a bit of both I guess.

R S 11-17-2009 04:42 PM

My second favorite goalie of all time behind Roy. What a beast.

I just love the bad ass attitude. Dont rely on the damn dmen to protect you. Come up punching if someone pokes you. Gotta love Hextall.

Laus723 11-17-2009 04:52 PM

Yeah, he's crazy. Loved watching him play.

Adversary 12-04-2009 07:26 PM

Hextall ... ****ing awesome

WestLEAFfan 12-05-2009 08:41 AM

Wow, what a fantastic video! Thank-you for posting it. That guy was the epitome of skill and just plain mean.

the_speedster 12-05-2009 09:27 AM

the only goalie who would not fear rich peverley:yo:

Sanders418777 12-05-2009 10:43 AM

Isn't he Rich Peverley's dad?
