Det and Ott

Lebda + 4th
for
Carkner

Det - Carkner can fill that 5-6th D-man plus he plays the PK which would be a huge asset. He's signed 2 more years at 700k I believe. He is also willing to drop the gloves and this will help our D get tougher for the playoffs.

Ott - Not sure how this will work for them as Lebda is a UFA next year but I'm sure he can be signed for cheap.

Chrass 11-20-2009 02:57 PM

The only way Ottawa trades this guy is next year, and that's only if Cowen makes the team past the 10game mark.

So, no deal for Ottawa. They need his toughness as much as the Wings, which is why he was signed to his current 2 year deal.

The only D Ottawa would look to trade right now would be Picard, Campoli and Lee (outside chance of Volchenkov since he's UFA, but I highly doubt he leaves).

Sens4thecup 11-20-2009 03:04 PM

i want picard or campoli gone instead :)

Howard35 11-20-2009 03:05 PM

Lebda would be gone?

Sign me up. :yo:

I can't say I've seen to much of Picard. He does have some descent size. Does he use the body and can he play the PK?

Karlssonlee 11-20-2009 03:37 PM

Carkner came into camp without any realistic chance of making it to the NHL and solidified himself on the Sens blue-line. He's signed for cheap, and can bring a lot to the table; fight, kill penalties, toughness.

I wouldn't trade him for Lebda

He doesn't really use his body much and he has played the PK sometimes.

danishh 11-20-2009 03:43 PM

no way.
sens probably wouldnt even be able to resign lebda. Carkner is locked up 2 years cheap.

tradeable d on the sens are picard, campoli, and to a lesser extent lee.

No thanks

After looking at his stats I don't think there would be much difference between Picard and Lebda neither plays the body. I was hoping to get a 6th Dman who plays the body and can play the PK.

Matt714* 11-20-2009 03:48 PM

Proven 6th defenseman for rookie goon 6th defenseman and you want a 4th pick ?!

No way in hell. Toughness is overrated. Ottawa leads the league in PIM/G, that's not a good thing.

Generally when one makes a trade, one should seek to benefit both sides. Not sure how a trade will benefit the other team? Well it's likely a bad trade.

good description of what Carkner brings to the table. Fortunately for you no one in their right mind in ottawa would entertain such a deal so dont worry, this rookie goon 6th defenseman wont be gracing your blue line anytime soon.

we have 21 majors and 5 misconducts. If you look just at minors, ottawa's really not that bad when it comes to penalties. The media has just sensationalized it because with those in we have the highest PIMs/game and the lowest pp opportunities/game.

mjdm 11-20-2009 09:34 PM

Don't thibk that we'll trade Carkner anytime in the near future.

hexrae 11-20-2009 10:28 PM

This trade doesn't really help either team enough to make enough sense. For all his gaffs, Lebda's play fits Detroit's system more.

Or we can just keep Carkner... who is already signed cheap. In the same way that you want your D tougher, we have no desire to make ours any less so. No deal.

internetdotcom 11-21-2009 10:22 AM

The whole reason we signed Carkner is because he brings what we needed on our D - toughness. He is signed for this year and next, cheap, and has blossomed to be a nice addition, with a nice shot, and good on the PK. Why would we trade him and create a hole that he just filled? Not to mention that we gave him a chance in the NHL when no one else would - what would it say if we traded him after 20 games? If you wanted him, you could have signed him as a free agent, but you didn't. So if you want him now, you'll have to do a lot better than offering up a player you don't want, and whom you yourself acknowledge won't do anything for the Sens, AND is a UFA after this year.

Epic fail.

SpezDispenser 11-21-2009 10:35 AM

Just so the OP knows, Carkner was a UFA going into next season - until he stepped up and played rugged, smart, shutdown D in the pre-season and through the first 8 games of the year. We just signed him to a 700K extension and we won't be trading him.

trentmccleary 11-21-2009 11:23 AM

We have too many Lebda's already and a 4th rounder is worthless.

I wouldn't go that far, with Murray in charge.

But yeah, no deal.

Isn't the history of 4th rounders something like a 5% chance of making the NHL?
I'd consider him a success if he got Carkner to autograph his ECHL jersey.
