The Rangers have Drury on the fast track return from the concussion. Cleared to begin working out on Thursday. Rides the bike for 20 minutes on Friday. Skated by himself for 30 minutes on Saturday. Skated with the team in a full practice session on Sunday. He won't play tomorrow against Columbus but at this rate Drury could return for the Florida trip. He is seeing the doctor again tomorrow.

Chris Drury (concussion) said he hopes to make Florida trip this week (Fla. Weds/Tampa Fri./Pitts. Sat.) and resume playing then.

#NYRangers coach John Tortorella not sure of his lines for tomorrow night but said team will not recall a player from Hartford (AHL).

I think 2) is much more likely than 1). The Rangers are not getting any secondary scoring. Kotalik has disappeared as of late and his +/- is really awful and might as well mention he takes a lot of bad penalties. None of Callahan, Avery, Higgins, Drury have produced to expectations either. Rushing Drury back might help the pk and with faceoffs but I don't see what other areas it's going to help. The Rangers right now are too one dimensional and could use a serious shakeup.

Maineice11 11-22-2009 03:50 PM

I haven't seen it anywhere, but is there any report of how Higgy played in practice on a line with gabby and Prospal???

I'm also kinda surprised that torts wouldnt try avery with gabby and prospal.

3) Drury comes back and it doesn't make a bit of difference

AXN 11-22-2009 05:04 PM

Hope Higgins can get some points with Prospal and Gaborik. The lines actually look good with Drury back. Too bad they can't use them against Columbus.

Who is going to play center instead of Drury?

Drury is our best defenseman.
you know the funny part? i'm not joking.

THE DEFENSE IS HORRIBLE!

I wouldn't want to be the guy to challenge Laraque, would you?

Next thing you know you've got 2 injured players on your roster. ;)

lol, well i guess you're the only one that saw the link. It's like it's against forum rules to post a link to a youtube video of someone that isnt the rangers...dont really understand.

beastly115 11-23-2009 04:25 PM

Why bother rushing the guy back from injury? The ship will sink no matter who's on board.

its amazing how many doctors there are on this board...didnt know we had people who were so much smarter than the rangers doctors to know whether the team was rushing him or not....

Yeah, really. It must be a lot easier to get into medical school these days.

Cleared to play

Quote:

Chris Drury told The Post following last night's 7-4 Garden victory over the Blue Jackets that he has been cleared by the Rangers' medical staff to join the team for the three-game road trip that includes games tomorrow night in Florida, Friday night in Tampa Bay and Saturday night in Pittsburgh.

"They told me I'm good to go," said the captain, who has missed five games with the concussion he sustained on Curtis Glencross' blind-side hit in Calgary on Nov. 7. "Now it's up to the coaching staff to decide when I'm back in the lineup.

I really hope he's not rushing it.

Good.Maybe now JUST MAYBE we won't allow 4 goals a game.

Trxjw 11-24-2009 08:19 AM

Eh, I was hoping last nights win would give them enough satisfaction to let the guy rest a few more days. Hope this is the right move.

mullichicken25 11-24-2009 10:22 AM

im sure this will get mixed reactions from this board but I, for one, am happy he's back in the lineup, especially following a big win

i feel like now he can come back into the lineup without as much pressure of feeling like he needs to have a lights out performance to save this team

hopefully he feels like he can just go out there and contribute to the team rather than attempt to carry it

also, I'm hoping he see's some PP time because I don't really feel like Avery or Cally are cut out for it

RangerBoy 11-24-2009 10:25 AM

Per Arthur Staples twitter. Drury is skating with Callahan and Lisin this morning. Kotalik is not on the ice. He must be sore from the game.

The last couple weeks should show people that Drury is not the completely worthless player hes perceived to be by some. Especially when you consider the extraordinarily poor team defensive efforts (including last night against Columbus). Drury plays a sound game, and it will be nice to have some responsibility back up front.

he took a good shot to that shoulder.

as long as he can load and fire his weapon, were good.

TheHotRock 11-24-2009 11:47 AM

welcome back, drury. i'm gonna give him 5 games before i make any sort of judgement.

OverTheCap 11-24-2009 11:53 AM

Good news. Now we don't have to worry about one of our wingers playing out of position as center. We should win more faceoffs with Drury back in the lineup.

Hopefully they ease Drury back into the game, though. Maybe 3rd line minutes and minimal PK time for his first game back.

He should centre 4th line, 3C is his regular assignment
