Olaf Kolzig....
Washington Capitals goalie Olaf Kolzig has had a troublesome last few seasons, struggling to return to his 1998 Vezina Trophy season. Personally I can't blame Ollie for his recent slide, the defense that the team puts in front of him wouldn't start for my AAA team back home however he has definately slipped a bit. I think given the right situation and supporting players he could be a great starting goalie once more. There was alot of talk about moving him before the draft however, he has a "no trade clause" in his contract. Ollie also has a son that is disabled, the D.C. area has a great program which his son participates in. Ollie has recieved several special awards from the NHL regarding is outstanding achievements in community service and charity work, an all around good guy. He has publically stated that he does not wish to take part in a rebuliding process. So here we are again, what teams would want him....who are you willing to part with, keeping in mind that the Caps are in need of a solid veteran defensemen. I've listed a few of his stats below just for some extra infor. Enjoy....

I can see the Leafs going after him. Frankly, I'm surprised they didn't get him at the deadline.

If Belfour retires, this seems likely, if only because the Leafs' window for winning a Cup is NOW, and they may not want to wait for Tellqvist (sp?) to develop.

If Ottawa loses to Toronto, yet another early ouster... it might finally push them to replace Lalime. Kolzig would certainly be a likely candidate. Ottawa tried to trade for him at the deadline, but the Caps balked at picking up salary. They no longer were desperate to shed Kolzig's salary, and did not have to cave. So they passed.
