WJC - Team Russia

No discussion? how come, the expanded roster was anounced today:
http://www.fhr.ru/content/news/5016.html

I don't know enough on the omissions: The ones that do come to mind: Fisenko, Nikontsev, Rasiov, Ziazov, Kuchin and none of the MHL leaders: Dvurechesnkiy, Voronov, Gogolev, trio from Reaktor...

Zine 12-02-2009 08:44 PM

Yeah, lot of talent left off.

Atlant trio of Chernov, Lazarev, Yashin.

Pechursky, Sobchenko, Vasiliev, Nikontsev,

malkinfan 12-02-2009 08:46 PM

vasiliev is too old.

cska78 12-02-2009 09:03 PM

I am really shocked why noone from Mytishi trio is even invited to the expanded camp...

cska78 12-02-2009 09:04 PM

I was thinking maybe they were out of age already - was too lazy to check

We knew already about Sobchenko unfortunately. Are you sure about Nikontsev? I'm in love with him, but I'm not sure he's WJC level

I am unsure why Kabanov was left off, was it something to do with him coming to the CHL and Moncton? If Kitsyn was on the list same with Burmitstrov, then why not Kabanov.. he is ranked higher than the 2 names mentioned.

Man have you read the internet in the last weeks at least once? He's injured.

Read a bit about Grachev! He confirms he's out for the WJC http://www.russianhockeyfans.com/nhl...he-wjc-45.html

I knew he was injured but should be back by then. I found an article to explain why.

http://futureconsiderationsdotca.wor...-out-for-wjcs/

Though Kabanov’s current wrist injury is keeping him sidelined indefinitely, it isn’t the injury – an aggravation of an injury originally suffered eight months ago – that will keep him from representing his nation.

Instead, it will be head coach Vladimir Plyushchev that keeps Kabanov from participating in the event. Plyushchev re-inherits the role from former NHLer Sergei Nemchinov, who failed to find success with the junior program.

Russia last won the tournament in 2002 under Plyushchev’s guidance.

Plyushchev, said Kabanov, is the reason he won’t be participating in the holiday tournament.

“The coach from the team, the national team, he don’t love me at all,” Kabanov said before confirming he was referring to Plyushchev.

“He loves his country and he’ll never love me anymore. He used to love me but now we have problems with me running from Russia so he’ll never take me on the national team while he’s coach.”

WHJC is more for scouts and Canadians, I don't even get why send KHL players there, what do they have to prove? I think absence of Filatov and Kulemin will rid cska from two key forwards...I don't think KHL players should go to the WJHC...

Alessandro Seren Rosso 12-06-2009 08:08 AM

Why not? It's a great show and a big chance to get important experience in international competitions

I know Fisenko wont be happy being left off. I talked to him just before his participation in the Subway Super Series and he fully expected to be on the team.

Completely disagree, these players love playing for their country, especially Filatov was very disappointed that they lost to Canada last year. These guys love competing and upstaging there peers from other countries. It also reflects well on the Russian development system if they do well it looks good on their program, they always want to beat Canada because they poor millions in their leagues and system.

Nikontsev is surely making a strong case for himself, wonder if it would be too late to add him in? He scores the game tying and winning goals today against powerhouse Salavat. Stats - 7g 1a 8pts.

cska78 12-08-2009 07:29 AM

after the roster was announced they were saying 5 new names may be added later on (no link..), but may be I misunderstood.

Velociraptor 12-09-2009 07:55 AM

What do you think Russia's chances are like this year? They seem to be missing some key caliber players due to injury like Kabanov and Grachev.

Fisenko? He was never more than low-line/depth player for team 1990. Not WJC material.

malkinfan 12-09-2009 03:54 PM

For those that watched, Kitsyn's play did warrant a spot on the team.

Alessandro Seren Rosso 12-10-2009 06:08 AM

Also Voinov is out of the team http://www.russianhockeyfans.com/pro...he-wjc-55.html

MaxV 12-10-2009 09:05 AM

Hmmm, that sucks. Oh well, I hope their replacements impress.

Anyone want to guess the roster?

cska78 12-10-2009 09:19 AM

I think without Loktionov, Voinov, and Grachev - arguably best offensive d-man and top 2 centers (the weakest position in the country already) will hinder any chance for gold. I think bronze will be good this year!

rananda 12-10-2009 10:02 AM

i cant understand what lombardi and sather are doing here. dont they understand this will help the players' development and make them better players, which only increases their value to the kings and rangers? i can understand if they were about to be recalled by the big clubs, bu that is not happening right now.
