Last 10: Calgary 6-3-1; Los Angeles 6-3-1

Season Series: This is the second of four meetings between the teams this season. Calgary took Round 1 with a 5-2 win behind a hat trick from Jarome Iginla at the Staples Center on Nov. 21.

Big Story: This is a great matchup between two of the more exciting teams in the Western Conference. The way things are shaping up, the Flames and Kings could be battling for playoff seeding the rest of the way.

Team Scope:

Flames: Monday concludes what has been a remarkable six-game road trip for Calgary. A win against the Kings would give Brent Sutter's club 10 of a possible 12 points on its longest trip of the season. The Flames are coming off an impressive 2-1 win at San Jose on Saturday thanks to a 35-save effort from Miikka Kiprusoff and a tremendous defensive job against the Sharks' top line of Dany Heatley, Joe Thornton and Patrick Marleau.

"They've been the highest scoring line so far and we knew it would be a challenge," center Olli Jokinen said. "It was just a good two points for us."

Kings: Los Angeles is coming off its first loss of December, but still managed to earn a point in the process in Saturday's 5-4 shootout defeat against the St. Louis Blues at the Staples Center. Scott Parse and Jarret Stoll had a goal and an assist apiece in the loss.

"I don't think we played very well," captain Dustin Brown said. "I shouldn't say that. I guess we had some spurts, but it wasn't consistent enough tonight. We battled back and got a point, but that other point could be a huge difference-maker, especially against a team like that, that we're battling with (for playoff position)."

Who's Hot: Kiprusoff has allowed only three goals in his four appearances during this road trip and has posted two shutouts. … Kings forward Brad Richardson, who did not score a goal in his first 57 games with the club — has tallies in three consecutive games. Richardson scored a first-period shorthanded goal on Saturday.

Injury Report: Flames defenseman Cory Sarich is out with an undisclosed injury suffered on Nov. 23. … Kings defenseman Rob Scuderi is expected to return on Monday after missing nine games with a lower-body injury. Veteran forward Ryan Smyth (upper body) could return next week, while right wing Brandon Segal (knee) is day-to-day. Andrei Loktionov (shoulder) is on injured reserve and isn't expected back until March.

Stat Pack: Their shootout loss to the Blues dropped the Kings' record to 0-2-1 in three Saturday afternoon games. They share the building with two NBA teams, the Lakers and the Clippers.

Puck Drop: Calgary must be on cloud nine following its win at San Jose on Saturday, so confidence won't be an issue at opening faceoff. Terry Murray must have his club prepared from the get-go, or the Flames will head home with one of the most successful road trips in recent memory in their pockets.

Kings face the Flames three times in December. If they want to be a playoff caliber team, they gotta beat the best, especially at home. Lets hope the Kings put out the fire in Calgary's road trip.

umm, Kopitar and Brown need to score a few goals for the Kings to win this game (goin' on out on a limb, I know)

Geez - take some of the pressure off of Simmonds while they're at it!

Who fills in for her tonight? Mike Kalinowski? or does Patrick O'Neil just to get laugh at his own jokes all night?

I knew i should have just hidden her keys once she started drinking like a fish. Oh well, she is one crazy drunk.

anyways, lets put those flames out! Heidis got a flask to douse them with!

JDM 12-07-2009 03:42 PM

They will remember the last spanking Calgary gave them the way they remembered the one they took against Phoenix.

I expect all cylinders to be firing. Any less... And.. And... I'll drink more. So long as their effort outmatches my consumption, we're good.

TonySCV 12-07-2009 03:45 PM

Scuderi's back tonight.

They better be ready to play tonight, and come out skating hard. I hate losing to Canadian teams more than any other >.< Hopefully we have a good game at least. Will be interesting to see how the broadcasting team handles the Heidi situation though.

NSX 12-07-2009 03:57 PM

I've got a good feeling about this one. 3-2 Kings :yo:

kingscup 12-07-2009 03:57 PM

C'mon Kings!!! Here's praying that we don't have to rely on secondary scoring for tonight's game, KOPITAR, BROWN, FROLOV need to catch a case of the Twine Flu and go nuts!!!!

JDM 12-07-2009 03:57 PM

They likely won't 'handle' the Heidi situation. They will likely be instructed not to mention it, and its not like Bob and Jim can hear us asking questions from out couch.

I bet someone on Kings talk brings it up after the game, and Nickson will read a prepared statement along the lines of "It is true that Heidi had a run in with the police, but further details are not known, she is innocent till proven guilty, its her business, not the Kings', wish her the best, yada yada, don't ask again".

In true Mickey Mantle fashion, Heidi will show up to the game still wasted and do her job like nothing ever happened.

Well, I was referring to more in regards to personnel wise, if they would have the toolbox broadcasting solo or just leave it to Bob and Jim (hopefully).

As for the game, Kopitar needs to step up and take more authority. I expect the top line to contribute. We will need it if we hope to have a decent chance in this game.

It is something of a mod-only benefit :( I don't think the individual would like his name being broadcasted and logging onto literally 1000 requests. But perhaps I could request to get a generic avatar like Zad's to be decorated for many to use if they like.
