Cleary out 4 weeks with seperated shoulder

Just thought I would add some more great news, after a game that we all probably want to forget. Hope its nothing serious, cause I don't know if I or the Wings can take much more if this. Keep your fingers crossed everybody!

loosing with or without cleary. where is the difference?

aar000n 12-10-2009 03:01 AM

if we can go four games without and injury we can play with some cohesion(sp) we basicaly ran the blues off the ice all night long.

Looks like Leino's getting some playing time again. This year has been brutal.

Frozen Fiend 12-10-2009 10:14 AM

The only positive thing I can say is... rather now then in May.

Adversity is winning like 5 - 0 right now. We need Z or Pavs to score a trick.

The Wings probably are counting the minutes till 2010 hits. Holy damn its been a horrible YEAR.. not season but YEAR.

HockeyinHD 12-10-2009 11:47 AM

On the plus side... hey, how about that 2010 draft class!

Howard35 12-10-2009 11:48 AM

Adding in, would it hurt at this point to call up a kid from Grand Rapids and give him a few games shot? What would it hurt at this point?

I don't think calling up an AHL kid is the answer right now either, but the fact that Leino is playing like an AHLer anyways, it might be worthwhile to the future of some of our AHL prospects like Mursak and Tatar to let them come up for 2-3 games just to give them a taste of real NHL action (not preseason shyt) to let them know whats in store for them and what they really need to work on if they wanna translate the AHL success they are having right now into the big leagues.

This is by no means a method of making us win NHL games now, but because like I said, Leino isn't doing anything for the team anyways, I don't think it really affects the outcome if we will win the game or not, but it does possibly give some valuable experience to our kids for those 2-3 games.

2-3 games will do absolutely nothing of any remote value to any of those kids, besides quite possibly getting them hurt. Having them up longer (is it 7 games?) starts the clock on their FA status, and that's not a good idea either.

The Wings shouldn't do anything. They're getting crushed by the injury bug. That's it. If they are able to get healthy, they'll be fine and extremely dangerous in the playoffs. If they don't, then none of the rest of this matters too much anyway.

Yeah, it might be time to think long term strategy here, thanks to the hockey gods.

If we call someone up, maybe it should be Williams. A vet who has a history of chipping in goals when being called up, not in our long term plans and creates space on a top line in GR for one of the kids to step into.

Another one bites the dust...

Schroedingers Cat 12-10-2009 03:29 PM

I wonder who is next?

It's amazing that almost every single injury this season is counted in weeks and not days or games. The Wings have to be close to leading the league in man games lost, especially if you count impact players.

Swedish Puck Mafia 12-10-2009 03:34 PM

Is it only a matter of time before the Wings do open tryouts a la the Philadelphia Eagles in the 70's?

Hell, give the ice clean-up crew some hockey sticks and see if they can play.

Is he even contracted yet? It would be a bad idea to call up a newly drafted player anyway.

I bet big Al Sabotka would kick ass, he might come up wth a new kind of hat trick.

How about a goal, a fight, and a zamboni ride

So at this pace we're going to be losing our moderators to carpal tunnel and tennis elbow.

The only player that would impact in any way is Tatar.

Of the young ones, yes.

However, Oulahen, Newbury, Williams, Emmerton, McGrath, Rissmiller -- all guys who can be filler and chip in without risking development...

... because, well, they're pretty much developed out.

No need to even worry about "impact" at this point.
