Is Clowe the best middle weight in the NHL?

The dude is an absolute beast. Not many people get to watch him play in SJ, but when you see that he has dropped his gloves you know he is going to win.

So, is he the best middle weight?

LMFAO......nice reply! something tells me the OP was a little biased on this one.

jammyrft 01-03-2010 01:41 PM

depends on what you classify as a middleweight, but he would be right in the range of rypien and I'm pretty sure rypien would destroy clowe

As a Sharks fan... LOL NO

lol how did i know somebody was going to post this? I have no explanation of why he lost, but if they went again i would definately bet on a Clowe beat down.

As emberrasing as that is, im pretty sure that is the only fight he has lost at the nhl level.

These are some of his nicer fights:

May not be the best middleweight in the league but don't let the Malone clip fool ya. This guy is one tough S.O.B. and can really throw 'em. I've watched alot of his fights on youtube and Clowe has won the majority of them. He's one of the top power forwards in the league and kinda reminds me of a Cam Neely type player. I don't think we've seen the best of this guy yet. I believe he will improve big time in the years to come.

If hes not the best, hes pretty close. How many guys would you put ahead of him?

Most on these boards say Neil, Bieksa, and Rypien are among the best but are they really better than Clowe? Some others are Carcillo, Rivet, Tootoo (was very good a couple years ago. Tailed off after the Clowe beating), Moen and S. Thornton.

After looking at all of those names I'm not sure Clowe is THE best but he is certainly close.

Why "LOL NO"?

Marty30 01-03-2010 02:45 PM

Clarkson?

Fire Julien 01-03-2010 02:50 PM

His fight card is pretty thin for someone his size

xeric716x 01-03-2010 02:54 PM

nope

sharked out hog 01-03-2010 03:43 PM

out of all the top middleweight guys i think clowe is the most skilled player. i would take him on my team over any of the other guys mentioned. as for fighting im not sure if he is the best but he can certainly handle most guys on the ice.

Gene Parmesan 01-03-2010 03:54 PM

Ryane Clowe is awesome, he isn't the best middleweight but his game has grown since he first came in so I'm not complaining. His best fight was from the 05/06 season against Jimmy Vandermeer. Great fight.

Tavaresmagicalplay* 01-03-2010 04:32 PM

I think Ryan Stone or JF Jaques would beat him in a fight. I can't really understand what the definition is of a middleweight. A guy in and around 220?

Yeah than I think those 2 would definitely win in a fight.

TheCH* 01-03-2010 04:42 PM

He is pretty damn big for a "middleweight". Love to have him on my team though!

Yeah, agreed. Someone is going to have to define middleweight for me, I guess...because guys that go 6'2", 225 don't really scream middleweight to me.

Avery4Byng* 01-03-2010 07:06 PM

I don't know if he is a middleweight, but if he was he still would not be THE toughest.... Hard to call someone thats not very active 'the best'....

macleod50 01-03-2010 07:27 PM

Arron Asham.

itstheroc87 01-03-2010 07:30 PM

Im not a big Sharks fan so i dont see him a lot what i have caught he is a very good 2 way player not sure id want him playing up the fight side much , and honest i do think Rypien would chew him up .

he doesnt fight much at all unless he gets frustrated. Hes one of those guys who if not scoring will play the dirty game which is a good thing in general. If his game is going well hes reluctant to throw.

VeddarRants 01-03-2010 10:36 PM

Clowe's fighting record is 16-5-8. He's got some decent names on the list. He may have heavyweight size, but he has a middleweight/light heavyweight fighting card. I don't think he's the best in that category.

Id agree with this. Except i dont think he is absolutely reluctant to fight if he is producing.

Clowe doesnt look for fights but when someone asks him he is willing. Only time that he goes after guys is if they do something to a teammate.

LOL post the only one he gets his ass kicked. He lost his balance, big deal. Anyway, he's definitely an underrated fighter, but I wouldn't go as far as to say he's the best in his class.

Most of what i saw was playoffs last year he played hard but clean no dirty stuff just finished his checks and skated well , i youtubed his figts wil say hes ok but not a top notch fighter he is like many guys in NHL can hang in and fight but its not his best skill and id say Rypien will thump him .
Sharks have a fighter other than him dont they?
