Former Flyers coach John Stevens is expected to accept a position as a part-time scout with the club and is contemplating an offer to be a guest analyst for VERSUS and TSN, the Courier-Post has learned.

"Certainly there are areas we could use his expertise," Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren said, noting Stevens could scout colleges for potential free agents.

Stevens, who was fired by the Flyers Dec. 4, said he took the opportunity to spend the Christmas holidays with his wife and two sons and is looking forward to getting back into the NHL as a Flyers scout and an in-studio television analyst.

Opus 01-12-2010 05:24 PM

Nice news, good for Johnny Boy.

UseYourAllusion 01-12-2010 05:25 PM

With his dynamic charisma, this seems a natural step.

CS 01-12-2010 05:33 PM

I kind of wanted Stevens to be a developmental coach, but I guess scouting isn't that much of a step down.

DrinkFightFlyers 01-12-2010 05:33 PM

Nice. Always liked John Stevens.

IrishSniper87 01-12-2010 05:33 PM

NOOOO. I thought I was DONE looking at that bonehead. Now he might be on TV???????

WHY!!?!?!?!?!??!?

Take the scout job Johnny Boy.

Giroux tha Damaja 01-12-2010 05:37 PM

I'd be interested to hear his analysis on TSN and Versus. Hopefully it would be slightly more insightful than his post game Pressers as a coach.

Miss Mess 01-12-2010 05:48 PM

Good for him, I knew the Flyers would hire him somewhere else in the club.

dbr2 01-12-2010 05:48 PM

Good news.

I found out I live pretty close to Johnny boy. Made me laugh.

FlyHigh 01-12-2010 05:48 PM

Yeah, he does seem like a nice guy from most accounts.

LOL!!!

I'm happy for him, he does seem like a nice guy...as long as he isn't coaching.

Black Ice 01-12-2010 05:56 PM

I'm happy that he'll remain with the Flyers someway, but why would he do TV? He was so boring to listen to during interviews. Shows no emotion whatsoever.

.....It's like watching the Mike Richards WG BMW commercial.

Terence Peterman 01-12-2010 06:55 PM

He's got a face, voice, and personality for radio.

That being said, I'd prefer him taking the scouting job. Maybe it'll segway into a player development job.

TSN: where fired coaches go to await their next job

Kaktus* 01-12-2010 10:00 PM

Stevens a scout?

Cleary84 01-12-2010 10:02 PM

Flyers replaced Stevens with Lavi. Versus replaced Lavi with Stevens. Good trade if you ask me. Flyers made a steal.

dawkins121 01-12-2010 10:21 PM

I'd love to hear his commentary on games...

"Well that's odd there Mike, I don't understand why coach Laviolette is reacting to what his players are doing on the ice..."
