Petr Sykora on waivers (Update: clears waivers)

Petr Sykora has been placed on waivers by Minnesota... 3 points in14 GP this season...

Let's get this right: Minnesota puts Sykora and Earl on waivers. Toronto puts Tim Brent on waivers. CBJ's Picard clears.

Not a chance in hell.

Melrose_Jr. 01-19-2010 12:29 PM

just where he belongs.

nyr2k2 01-19-2010 12:31 PM

Pass. Not what we need, at C or W.

Lundqvist=Vezina 01-19-2010 12:34 PM

No thanks.

FromTheSide 01-19-2010 12:36 PM

How much does sykora make?

I'd pick him up if it meant sitting/sending down/waiving bums like brashear......maybe we could deal higgins afterwards? :sarcasm:

Fitzy 01-19-2010 12:41 PM

3 Years ago I wouldve loved to have him on the club. But we picked up our waiver guy for the season.

BrooklynRangersFan 01-19-2010 12:46 PM

No, no, no. I am not interested in anyone who is not part of the solution next year. In fact, I'd prefer that we look to get maximum value out of the guys we already have who will be leaving this summer (Prospal, Higgins, potentially Girardi).

Greg NYR 01-19-2010 12:49 PM

no, bad idea.

that being said, really suprised the guy had as much trouble as he did sticking with a team after the devils. he played great for us in 05-06 and has all the skill in the world, just one of those things i guess.

Trxjw 01-19-2010 12:55 PM

Someone will snag him. If I felt we were a serious contender, I might get on board with claiming him, but I'll pass.

pwoz 01-19-2010 01:02 PM

I'd swap him with Kotalik, as Sykora is UFA after this season.

1,6M$ pro-rated, $688,083 remaining this season, then UFA.

McRanger 01-19-2010 01:07 PM

Picard cleared waiver, yikes.

God that 2004 draft is shaping up to be awful. Wonderful year for us to have our "rebuild".

NikC 01-19-2010 01:07 PM

if not for his injuries, he'd be worth a shot. he potted 25g in last year
and probably produce more than Christensen or Kotalik.

Lion Hound 01-19-2010 01:08 PM

Interesting...and tempting from a GM standpoint. But I would pass on him.

NYR Viper 01-19-2010 01:19 PM

Considering the Rangers are already sitting 2 forwards I would hope Sather doesnt think about bringing in another forward before he moves one he already has.

haohmaru 01-19-2010 01:55 PM

$688,000+ for a forward that's scored 20+ for 10 consecutive years and has won two Stanley Cups?. Hell, yes. I really doubt he lasts until it's the Rangers turn. No brainer for me for a team that can't score.

jniklast 01-19-2010 02:10 PM

Waive and send down Brashear (this year his cap hit would vanish) or find a doctor to put him on LTIR, and then claim Sykora.
But since the first thing isn't happening, we don't need another forward.

In other threads, someone pointed out that waiving and demoting Brashear would only knock like 10% of his salary off the books. Some weird rule in the CBA.

but if he brought Sykora back it would force his hand to actually move Kotalik or Higgins (I doubt Brash can be moved right now, and I'd actually like to keep Voros on our 4th.)

RangerFan10 01-19-2010 02:27 PM

Brash on LTIR would be cool but I'm going to assume he has to sign off on it.

Nick00 01-19-2010 02:27 PM

I definitely read somewhere earlier this week that Sather was looking at Sykora.
He's pretty desperate at this point.
Just saying...

OverTheCap 01-19-2010 02:36 PM

3 points in 14 games? Healthy scratch?

Pick him up, Slats, he'll fit right in here!

RangerFan10 01-19-2010 02:46 PM

Christensen was pretty brutal in Anaheim and he's been pretty good here. Sykora's always had a pretty good attitude about things, he COULD turn it around.

I'm not really onboard with the move, but I wouldn't mind it. If anything it would put some pressure on guys like Lisin and Kotalik to get their act together. We can always waive Christensen and/or Sykora and send them to Hartford and it wouldn't be a big deal.

That's the rule for players that were 35 when they signed their deal, in the second or later year on a multi-year contract.
