Hockey Team 01-21-2010 06:27 PM

we're stuck with the 2nd year cap hit no matter what.

Dagoon44 01-21-2010 06:30 PM

But if I read that right it could be spread out over 2 full years. That would be 700,00 savings for one year and a loss the second. Might be worth it

Hockey Team 01-21-2010 06:30 PM

not on a 35+ contract.

nyrmessier011 01-21-2010 06:46 PM

If we saved $1 in cap hit it would be worth it to dump him. Otherwise he shouldn't leave the press box

mullichicken25 01-21-2010 06:47 PM

im sure this has been dicussed at length but i havent been around these parts much recently but what happens cap-wise if Brash plays on the wolfpack next year?

Crease 01-21-2010 06:48 PM

Keep him in the press box until we need to clear a roster spot for someone else. Then either buy him out or bury him in the minors. No one is going to take his contract off our hands, but we can at least keep him off the ice.

Hockey Team 01-21-2010 06:49 PM

we would.. if he retires or gets dumped to the AHL the cap hit is 1.3 million instead of 1.4 million..

we're screwed unless we can offload him to another team.

tjs252 01-21-2010 06:55 PM

He'll get demoted before he gets bought out.

tdawg56 01-21-2010 07:54 PM

What a terrible signing.

The Rangers would still take a $1.4 million cap hit. Brashear gets 66% of of his money over 2 years but the cap hit for 10-11 will be $1.4 million.

RangerBoy 01-22-2010 07:20 AM

The 35 plus rule was designed to prevent teams from signing older players to long term contracts(longer than 1 season)resulting in lower cap hits only to see the player retire which takes the cap hit off the books. Teams have gone around that with the long term contract which begin earlier than 35 but stretches past 35.

I was in a wait and see "mode" when we signed him. Not convinced, not totally opposed as well. Today, a little longer actually, I just can't stand the guy and his contract anymore. In some way, this contract is as much if no more awful as some of the others Sather offered the past 3 years. Same for Kotalik. At least Redden, Rozsival and Drury can play. The other two are just dead weight. A ****ing additional 4,4 millions $ of dead weight.

- About Donald Brashear: is it true that he speaks Russian and plans to play in the KHL? There were rumors that he could find himself with Chekhov Vityaz, a club which delights [fans] with physical play and frequent on-ice fights, while not forgetting the main task: scoring on the opposition’s net.

Enver Lisin: Yes, he really wanted to play in the KHL, like you said, he could have found himself with Checkhov Vityaz, but the New York Rangers won out, apparently. Donald often asks us about Russia, so maybe a little later he will go and play in our country. He speaks Russian, but only a very little bit.

Artem Anisimov: Incidentally, he even has a teach-yourself-Russian CD in the his CD player.

RangerFan10 01-22-2010 08:45 PM

I wonder if he can play in another league if he's on LTIR lol

Vitto79 01-22-2010 09:17 PM

so if he goes under LTI is he off the cap?

Hockey Team 01-22-2010 10:21 PM

Hmm.. so Vityaz was interested in brashear..

How come this doesn't come as any surprise?

trilobyte 01-23-2010 12:29 AM

Hopefully.

SlingshotVv 01-23-2010 03:50 AM

not really a surprise. last season he supposedly pal'd around with semin a dn AO a ton off the ice. i saw a clip when fedorov bought his new ferarri, and brashear was in the passenger seat when he first picked it up.

aside from moving him within the NHL, i don't think we can alleviate his cap hit barely at all. honestly, right now, i don't see an NHL franchise that would be looking at brashear as a positive addition to their line-up. maybe the blues, considering it's always brown that winds up sticking up for teammates and he's a bit too valuable to be spending that kind of time in the box. but JD's been around brashear for too long to think that would be a solution.

still counts against the cap, I believe.

I think a buy-out may be worthwhile, at least it saves them some cash.

Inferno 01-23-2010 04:44 PM

retirement still counts against the cap. id rather trade him with like a 5th rounder or something for "future considerations" if you really have to get him off the books.
