Franson out 2 weeks (rib), Sulzer recalled w/injury

After further examination, it was announced today that Cody Franson will miss a minimum of two weeks with a broken rib. Franson left the Sommet Center with his left arm in a sling.

To replace him, German Olympian Alexander Sulzer was recalled from Milwaukee, however as discussed earlier this week...Sulzer himself is battling an injury that was revealed this afternoon...

Alexander Sulzer has already been recalled from Milwaukee and practiced Wednesday morning in Nashville. The Predsí decision to keep Sulzer fresh by playing for the Admirals should pay dividends here, as Sulzer arrives here after posting six points (two goals, four assists) in seven games for Milwaukee during his latest reassignment. Sulzer has had some recent difficulties with a broken blood vessel in his eye, but he said Wednesday that the issue has not bothered him on the ice.

Hopefully Sulzer continues to not be affected on the ice by this injury...and that he is paired with either Hamhuis or Bouillon to keep the 2-8 combination off the ice!!!

Sulzer had a goal and an assist on the PP for the Admirals last night in their 5-1 win over Texas. During his time in Milwuakee, Sulzer has been the Admirals leading scorer amongst defensemen...

Sulzer made some very nice feeds to Wilson on a couple of Wilson's most recent goals. I thought Sulzer really looked solid. Welcome back!

But if he's paired with Bouillon then won't that KEEP the 2/8 combo together??

It's a shame about Cody, but he wasn't wearing an arm sling tonight. Wonder if he's supposed to be wearing it. Welcome back Sulzer, let's hope his injury isn't too bad!

I broke one rib about 15 years ago and couldn't play soccer for 3 or 4 weeks. It hurt to breathe deeply. It hurt more getting in or out of bed! I am not a doctor, but if Franson has several fractured ribs, I would expect 4 weeks. The best thing to do with most rib fractures is to leave them alone to heal. You don't want him to puncture a lung on the ice.

Agreed. I think with the Olympic break coming up Franson will be held out until completely healed. Then he will still have a week or two to get back into shape.

It's an unfortunate injury, but really couldn't have been timed much better...
