How long is your stick (on skates)?

I've kinda been debating lately and wanted to see for myself. How long is your stick when on skates?

hoonking 02-06-2010 06:19 PM

Right on my chin with a senior but I just bought an intermediate for the lower flex so its probably gonna be around the bottom of my neck.

blueberrydanish 02-06-2010 06:31 PM

It comes up to my upper lip on skates. I play defense and Im 5'11". Perfect length for me really, only complaint is if I got the puck in tight and try to sling a hard wrister I catch myself sometimes in the chest. Can leave a nice bruise if I dont got shoulderpads on.

Backstrom #19 02-06-2010 07:09 PM

Right in between my mouth and my nose...Anything shorter feels way to short, it even feels really short with the way it is now.

I'm 5'8 and a defenceman, and I'd say stick-handling is what I'm best at.

Hockeyfan68 02-06-2010 07:26 PM

Up to my bottom lip with skates on.

budster 02-06-2010 07:28 PM

I use an old Z bubble that's right at my chin. I'm 6'I" and play forward mostly.

sirpipsalot 02-06-2010 07:37 PM

I'm 5 10 and my stick goes right to the bridge of my nose. Love the long stick. Helps my poke check, and it seems to help my stickhandling. I can push it way out, and still toe drag all the way to my body.

Ollie Queen 02-06-2010 07:44 PM

Same length as it is when I don't have my skates on :sarcasm:

All jokes aside, it comes to my chin on my skates... maybe just under my bottom lip. I'm just under 5'10.

SouthpawTRK 02-06-2010 08:23 PM

I cut both of my sticks so that they are at my chin in skates. There are times that I thought about decreasing the length; maybe an inch or two under my chin. Just a little concerned that the flex might be too stiff if I cut that much off.

Sticks have to be at my chin on skates.

Jarick 02-06-2010 09:18 PM

Chin on skates, I'm 5'8 and play defense. Good stick handler and decent shooter (just can't skate). Used to be up to mouth or nose and I might have had a better shot then.

rinkrat22 02-07-2010 09:36 AM

on skates I cut them down to the notch in my neck (that soft spot at the base of your throat before it turns to bone) I'm 6'1" and about 205lbs.

About seven or eight inc....

...OH! My hockey stick reaches the bottom of my chin.

Frankie Spankie 02-07-2010 11:34 AM

I actually experimented a lot with stick heights recently and realized that just a bit under my chin is best. I was getting to the point where I was literally shaving an eighth of an inch off every couple of games to see how it would work and stopped once it started to decrease performance. At least now I know the ideal height for me.

Ti-girl 02-07-2010 12:28 PM

Depends on which stick.

Defense - nose
forward - chin

TheGooooch 02-07-2010 01:18 PM

Chinny chin chin

densetsu 02-07-2010 01:33 PM

I do hope you take the results of this poll and cut all your sticks to the most popular length.

Because as we all know, what's best for the majority is best for everyone in every aspect. Right? Right?

WithOutPaperss 02-07-2010 02:52 PM

I cut mine to my mouth. I usually had it at around my chin and it really feels good. Anything past my mouth for me is no good. I can't stickhandle or shoot with a tall stick. That's just my preference. I've been doing unreal since I got a stick cut to my mouth.

Ragss 02-07-2010 03:25 PM

I've been expirmenting a lot. Had a couple sticks last season that were extremely long, but I'm 6'5 so they only came up to my mouth on skates. But I found that I was having trouble utilizing that extra length, even on defense. Got another stick that was down to my chin, maybe 2.5 or 3 inches shorter, and this season another thats currently below my chin. I'm going to extend that one back up to the middle length as that seems like the happy medium.

But...I still want to try an extremely long stick again.

DogFoodEnforcer 02-07-2010 04:00 PM

my two main sticks are just about at my chin (maybe slightly longer).

ive been working on one of my sticks for the past couple of weeks. cut it down, then made it a bit long because i was finding that the end of the stick was sitting in the middle of my palm when shooting. i added 2" to stick, went and played a game, and it was horrible. waaaaay too long. i cut it back down to size and everything's back to normal.

i used to play defence and my stick would come up higher than my nose. i tried to use one of my old sticks a few months ago and didnt understand how i accomplished anything at all with a stick that long.lol

Gunnar Stahl 30 02-07-2010 05:51 PM

below my neck, around the top of my chest

NobodysFaulkButMine 02-07-2010 09:08 PM

Everyone is different but I prefer a smaller stick. I used to have it at my mouth and found my shot and stick handling was poor because I tended to carry the puck too far from my body. When I switched to a stick that was under my chin, I found that I kept the puck much tighter to my body and it felt much more natural. Everyone is different so give a small stick a try before you make your mind up.

Also, I guess it's a mental thing for me. With my large stick, I held it like a golf club but as soon as I switched, I naturally slid my hand further down.

JA brings a very good point, using a shorter stick makes it easier to slide your hand down and arguably get more power on your shot as a result. In my experience, a longer stick benefits my stick handling at the cost of shooting in motion. You can learn to modify your shooting technique with a longer stick though.

Surprised by poll results to be honest..

Thought that more, particularly forwards, would be BELOW the chin on skates.. to each his own, as everyone knows, it ALWAYS comes down to PERSONAL PREFERENCE!
