Hockey Canada's fundamental philosphy (roster talk/omissions)
 

Hockey Canada gets it wrong again. You'd think they'd learn, but nope, keep coming back with the same dumbass selection errors. I have been calling for months!!!

Hcoeky Canada builds their team like it's for a NHL best of 7 series, and to "stop" big bad team Russia. So they put on all these "gritty" 2 way checkers over more talented players. OH LOOK WHAT A SURPISE, Canada can't buy goals when they run into a hot goalie. What a great idea to bring guys like Seabrook, Morrow & Bergeron over top 15 NHL forwards!! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrit didn't do much last night for them vs. Hiller, sure coulda used a nice unstoppable Stamkos or Green one timer from the face off circle tho!

Where have I seen this movie before? Oh right, all those other times that team Canada and other favourite teams lose when they run into hot goalies. At least when Sweden & Russia do it, they have already brought all their best guys (tho Russia maybe coulda used Kovalev's touch last night). Team Canada left 5 of the top 25 NHL forwards at home, including 3 in this year's top 10, and bring a bunch of guys way down the list instead because they are grrrrrrrrrity!! Forget that they are younger, have never won anything, and nowhere near as dominant as the guys staying at home.

Hockey Canada just doesn't get it, this isn't a best of 7 series, you come up short in scoring in ONE GAME and you're gone. Having a dominant stanely cup winning line Richards-Lecavalier-St Louis on your bench would sure be more likely to get something going than Morrow-Richards-Toews. Woulda been nice to have Stamkos' DEVESTATING one timer and Mike Green doing his thang when Canada was going like 1 for 8 on the PP too.

History repeating itself here, and the genius braintrust at hockey Canada is 100% to blame.

or when we actually lose a game. we won, that's all that matters, time to move on.

i am sure there are people on here that will be upset if it takes a shoot out to win the gold.

The Swiss played a GREAT game, some people seem to overlook that. They took away our time and space very effectively and when we got chances, Hiller was there. It didn't help that Brodeur gave up a softy either.

The Crosby-Nash combo? The Sharks line? Getzlaf and Perry?

You couldn't be anymore wrong.

The only players that kept the game simple and effective were the grinders. We have 3 lines of nothing but talent and they couldn't get it done. Do you really think the problem is not enough goal scoring prowess?

Give your head a shake. The problem was how nervous they were, and how they're not even close to playing like a team.

Of course they did, they have a GREAT goalie who was most recently spotted winning playoff series' and taking over Anaheim #1 position as a rookie, all the other top teams also have GREAT NHL starter goalies who are perfectly capable of standing on their heads and winning games. This has happened before, and it will happen again.

How do you minimize the chances of this happening? You bring OVERWHLEMING offence. Canada has that kind of offence, but the geniuses at hockey canada decided instead of bringing overwhelmingly dominant offence, they will leave it at home and bring grrrrrrrrrrrrritt!! instead.

uhhh huh, the grinders sure did well when the PP went 1 for 7... sure didn't need more goal scoring prowess there. Those 4 Canadian guys who are TOP 10 in NHL POWERPLAY POINTS who were left off team would've been no usewhatsoever, all the right selections done there.

And teamwork lacking huh, well good thing team Canada left that line of dominant all stars who won a stanley cup together at home. The olympic team that has poor teamwork sure didn't need that lightning trio!!

I'll say it again, they should have just chosen the highest ranked NHL team with the best combination of Canadian players/highest amount of quality Canadian players.

Then they'd only have to substitute 3 or 4 Canadian all stars for the Europeans on their team.

You don't really have enough minutes to roll four scoring lines. You have to have a bunch of forwards that don't mind playing 11-12 minutes a game, including PK time.

Of course many skilled players would do fine in that role but many are too high maintenance to do it. Easier to go with guys like Morrow, Bergeron etc who do it without moaning and without expecting PP time.

there's your pp forward units. i am pretty sure there is enough scoring on those two lines to get it done.

but of course the blame lays on Bergeron and Morrow.

Yeah, we're really missing star power/goal scoring power. You're right, its definetely that we don't have enough talent on those 3 lines to score goals. I'm sure its not anything to do with that way we're playing, not WHO is playing.

Bringing along St. Louis and Stamkos we probably would have won 100 to 2. Yeah you're totally right.

If Crosby, Nash, Thornton, Heatley and Marleau aren't scoring, what makes people think Stamkos and Green's one timers will be any different?

So why stop at 3 lines? BRING 4 if you have them.

When you desperately need a goal against a hot goalie, you want every player out there being a gamebreaker who be your hero. You don't need plugs. You need to MAXIMIZE your chances by bringing ALL the most dangerous players your country has.

Canada couldn't get that goal last night, would one of the 5 missing guys beaten Hiller? I don't know, but they would've had a BETTER CHANCE TO than with the weaker guys they did bring.

Again in these short tournaments, they aren't NHL playoff series. You LOSE these tournaments when you run into a hot goalie, how do you minimize the chance of that happening? You bring ALL your best scorers to overwhelm him. Canada didnt.

Also, we should have only brought 6 D and 2 goalies so we could bring more scorers along. Everyone knows that more scorers are more effective with less ice time.

We should really just start only bringing scoring forwards. That way even if the other team got 8 goals, we would get 20.

I don't know why people are complaining when we won. Wait till the Medal rounds and if they lose then you all could start *****ing at Steve Yzerman.

Russia sure coulda used Kovalev, a great offensive touch who also knows Halak like a book.

USA will regret taking Drury & Callahan over the dynamic offensive threat of Gomez-Gionta when they come up short in scoring.

Everyone knows that Joe Sakic > Steve Yzerman, so they should have also chosen Super Joe over Stevie Why?
