Goaltender Frank Doyle

San Jose has signed goaltender Frank Doyle to a two-way contract and has assigned him to Worcester. Doyle was previously on Worcester's roster under a PTO...

For some reason when I read that name I imagine a guy in his mid 40's. Possibly a plumber.

Anyways, I wonder whats going on here.

LadyStanley 02-26-2010 09:58 PM

Sounds like Sexsmith's back is worse than anticipated.

This also allows the Sharks to recall him during the playoffs as a target practice goalie.

It could also mean that the Sharks are serious about trading a goalie before the deadline.

TheGooooch 02-26-2010 09:58 PM

I wish his last name was O'Doyle.

What is up with this signing though?

Would make some sense if DW had already arranged a deal during the Olympic break and now doesn't want to play him. That or he's hurt.

I'm really curious what DW is going to do. At this point my gut tells me he is not going to stand pat.

The Nemesis 02-26-2010 10:03 PM

Isn't Frank Doyle one of the ex-FBI/explosives guys on Mythbusters?

It was already revealed that Sexsmith was hurt, was it not? Also given his crappy play in his first pro season, I have a hard time believing he has any trade value.

This is an injury-replacement move, not a trade precursor.

My feeling that its the first two. They need someone to back up Stalock and might just shut down Sexsmith for the season, then use him in the playoffs as a shooter-tutor.

They should just keep using Shields for free:sarcasm:

Stop ruining our fun!

Doyle was signed solely because Sexsmith is hurt and is likely done for the season and the WorSharks needed a back-up...

Sexsmith has a sports hernia.

VP and GM 02-26-2010 10:15 PM

so, who is this guy? Can he play?? Stats???

VP and GM 02-26-2010 10:17 PM

PS - it's interesting that we have so much goaltender depth that we'd even have to do this in the first place...

He's certainly good enough to play in the AHL...he certainly isn't as good as Stalock, but Doyle will certainly give the WorSharks a fighting chance to win in any game he plays in.

San Jose has no pro goaltender depth available other than Nabby, Greiss, Stalock, Sexsmith (now injured), and Doyle...

EXACTLY what I came in here to post. There's also a 100% chance that he is bald/balding. Could possibly be an insurance salesman as well.

SactoShork 02-27-2010 01:27 AM

I bet he doesn't even wear a helmet. Just nicely parted hair and a couple cool scars.
