Hasn't this been rumored for a while, or at least expected?

It might be for the best, with the mess he's been in, for the Preds to have another "face" associated with ownership.

Dirk has a good explanation up regarding this:

I don't buy into the flowers. This is not good for Nashville's rep anyway you try to spin it.

I didn't say it was good news, just a good write-up. Dirk has all the info there for you in one article to make up your own mind. Personally, I'm gonna sit back and wait before I make up my own...

Great news IMO.

The only thing that will be good news is when Freeman's lien is resolved one way or the other. This move serves only to take Freeman out of the spotlight as the face of the ownership group and the letter reiterates that the Authority has asked Freeman to waive his right to contest what he feels is an unjust judgment.

The one document that is pertinent here that I don't have is the personal guaranty between each owner and Metro. I know Nate Rau at the Tennessean has it .. now if he'll just post it or email it out. I haven't found anything in the agreements between Metro and the Team (License and Use / Management and Operation Agreeements) that would constitute a default situation.

If a team default situation did exist, the team could not enact the early termination clauses even if the attendance and aggregate loss provisions are met. Lawrence and North really should bother to read the lease before running to the media and making statements.

This means we're done after this year right ?

It takes the team having less than 14k average paid attendance, which it looks like the team will make again this season, AND an aggregate loss of over $20mil which requires the team losing a ton this year based on the reported profit in the FY ending 30 Jun 08 and a small loss in the FY ending 30 Jun 09.

Which basically entails that we're safe for now.

More like until otherwise told.

It would help if you actually spend a moment reviewing your "speculation" and thinking as to whether they could possibly be true, before posting stuff like "we're done after this year right?" Just what we need... I thought you were making just a tongue in cheek jab at people whom do that sort of thing, mostly fans of other teams.

Anyway, back toward the topic...

The sports authority is a joke. I have that on good sources and rumors.

Sounds like a reasonable move by Freeman. I can't see how it will have any impact. The sports authority is so dumb they'll keep trying to get publicity for all sorts of complaints. But at least he won't be referred to as the chairman when they do it.

I like what I've seen out of the management group. I think they have a good chance to make this team very successful, long term, in Nashville.

Jarnberg 03-01-2010 01:25 PM

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't this just mean that Freeman isn't the chairman and is still an owner? Or is he selling his shares? Because the two are much different situations.

Everything I've seen reported is just stepping down. Really, which of the other members has deep enough pockets to buy Freeman out?

Thanks. So really, this shouldn't have a huge effect on us in my opinion, as long as he is in the ownership group.

I was just told that Cigarran will likely be joined by other members of the ownership group during the interview and it's expected to cover a lot of questions. I'm not sure whether or not they will take phone calls, but if you're interested be sure to tune in...

Agree this doesn't look like a buyout. Why would they, really? Why sink more into this investment, unless you have to, if you are one of the other owners.

While I agree the others likely don't have enough- individually- to buy him out, don't forget that Freeman probably has the shallowest pockets in the group, so this shouldn't be viewed as the big shot being squeezed by the small fish. Really, the other way around is more accurate. Cigarran is much more of a known commodity in the Nashville business (read healthcare services) community than Freeman, so I think if anything it's a boost there as well. My personal belief is that he will fit better with the nhl board of governors group, too.
