Tampa Bay After Kris Versteeg?

Lightning looking for scorer

The Tampa Bay Lightning will be active on the trade market in the next few days and, according to the Tampa Tribune, they will seek a scoring winger and a puck-moving defenseman.
In a "dream" scenario, they could acquire Kris Versteeg from the Chicago Blackhawks. Versteeg, however, wouldn't be a rental -- he'd have a year left at $3 million. But Tampa GM Brian Lawton has said he is willing to take on long-term assets.
Meanwhile, other potential acquisitions are Alexei Ponikarovsky, Raffi Torres, Marek Svatos, Shean Donovan, Ruslan Salei, Steve Staois and Fredrik Modin.
In a trade, the Tribune suggests the Lightning have few assets -- at least in America: "Most likely available are Vasily Koshechkin, a 2002 draft choice who is tearing up the Russian KHL and finally wants to come to North America; Kari Ramo, who also is playing in Russia; and disappointing prospect Riku Helenius

Staios?

LMFAO...

CSampson 03-01-2010 05:54 PM

I'd love it if they got him.

ploppsdman 03-01-2010 06:01 PM

Versteeg has more than 1 year left on his contract. If I remember, he signed a 3-year deal after rfa gate.

This is basically info that was posted on here from an article from a few days ago.

Personally I would love to get Versteeg. The only way I see them getting him is if they trade their 1st (9th overall). If I was Lawton I would seriously consider it. You gotta think, if the Bolts make any kinda push, the pick will wind up being between 10-15. Would you rather have the prospect you pick in the 2010 1st round or the 23 year old Versteeg?

What about something like:

To Tampa:
Versteeg
Pick/Prospect

To Chicago:
2010 1st
Tanguay

LeafsandSharksfan 03-01-2010 06:06 PM

I'd love Versteeg on Toronto, and I'd think he'd thrive with a more run-and-gun style offense.

Make it happen BB.

If the Leafs wanted Steegy, what do you think they'd be willing to sacrafice in order to acquire him?

Is it OK if the Lightning have a thread, or does it have to be about the Leafs?

I'm not trying to be snotty, but the Blackhawks do not need of want Alex Tanguay. Period. Why would they trade Versteeg for him? Yeah, Kris has been in a slump and is only in his second full NHL season, but he could net a bit more than that, unless I'm clueless and unaware of the type of player he can be when he's on.

massivegoonery 03-01-2010 06:14 PM

Versteeg in a featured role would instantly make any team twice as fun to watch.

Did you not see Tampa's 1st in the proposal? Tanguay is pretty much just a throw in and a replacement/rental for Chicago. I dont think Chicago could get any better than the 9th overall pick for him.

They also get a pick that is 9th overall at the moment that can be flipped for rental or used on a nice prospect.

Tanguay is worth mid pick, Versteeg should be well worth a high first.

Thats why he would fit perfectly with Vinny (hopefully).

Downie - Stamkos - St. Louis
Malone - Lecavalier - Versteeg

....like it!

KingJet* 03-01-2010 06:23 PM

Do it Tampa, Do it, Send Alex Tanguay to Chicago.

Of course the 9th overall pick is great, but what about something other than Alex?

Halpern would be as best as I would go. Not going to get much more than that I would think.

The only reason I put him on there was because I figured that they would need a fill in to replace Versteeg. Plus, I heard they could use somebody on the PP.

On top of that, I think the Lightning would want some kind of pick back because the 9th overall for Versteeg seems a bit steap by itself.

Would you rather have Halpern, Fedoruk, or some other scrub from our bottom six?

Would it be out of the question to ask for Chicago's 1st in return? So it would be:

To Tampa:
Versteeg
Chicago 2010 1st

To Chicago:
Lightning 2010 1st
Roster Player
Prospect/Pick

What kind of offense do you think Chicago plays?

CSampson 03-01-2010 06:30 PM

Plus Tanguay's contract is cheap and expires after this season.

Yzlamic Extremist 03-01-2010 06:49 PM

The first round picks may help the value, but do Chicago really want more prospects? Isn't that why they've been trying to trade Skille for over a year?

I'd love to see Versteeg in a Lightning jersey.

Sevanston 03-01-2010 07:17 PM

We're definitely going to want some NHL-ready prospects for next year, that's for sure. The way this draft is looking, any top 10 pick would probably fit the bill. But really, I don't expect a trade involving Versteeg before the deadline unless it involves a goalie upgrade and a salary dump.

bleuetbio 03-01-2010 07:21 PM

Tanguay in the deal could be realy good honestly. Tanguay is a playmaker and could make an excellent 3rd line in Chicago. His salary is so cheap so this trade make sense for me

Versteeg vs Tanguay + 3rd rd
