Something is up.

worstfaceoffmanever 03-02-2010 11:18 AM

Move is forthcoming, I would suspect.

Webersmashpuck 03-02-2010 11:21 AM

I would also wager that Jones is picked up by a team like Edmonton or one of the sellers.

101st_fan 03-02-2010 11:22 AM

One of the misused players on the roster the past two seasons.

OpenWheel 03-02-2010 11:27 AM

Wow, waived? Wth??

cjerina 03-02-2010 11:43 AM

Rich Peverley all over again?

Someone's going to claim him.

Jones has been given plenty of chances to succeed and will make that drastic of a change, he will likely be picked up but only as a 15 goal scoring 2nd or 3rd liner. Which is exactly what he was here.

Roman Yoshi 03-02-2010 11:50 AM

Lisin is waived, Poile better consider it.

for sure

Trotz's Doghouse now vacant. :shakehead

ZombPred 03-02-2010 12:41 PM

Huh? I thought he was a decent trading chip?

barrytrotzsneck 03-02-2010 12:47 PM

don't judge it util you see how the next two days pan out. We might not have had a taker. Poile isn't one to give something up for nothing unless he has to. It's a million dollars(prorated out to whatever) off the books.

It will be like Peverley, some team will claim him then announce they wanted to trade for him but Poile didn't want to trade him at the time.

jstreet 03-02-2010 01:17 PM

why am I getting the impending sense that we are gonna lose Jones and Hamhuis for nothing while still waiting for that goal scorer to come?

braindead 03-02-2010 01:32 PM

Wow, I'm amazed that he had zero value as a trade or throw-in. Like when we were talking to the Oilers, I assume we said "hey, we can throw in Ryan Jones with the 2nd..." or when the Thrashers were signing Chelios we couldn't call and say "hey, if you want young suck to go along with your old suck, we have Ryan Jones and he's yours for a 15th round pick".

In all seriousness, I think he can fill a role on some team but we filled all available options with other, better options. He didn't do the little stuff well enough to beat out anyone. Perhaps Mike Santorelli should take note.

I still don't understand the timing. Why not waive him if and when you make a trade? Couldn't Franson stay on IR? Couldn't we pay him out this year if we don't make a trade?

ZombPred 03-02-2010 01:32 PM

*Praying 4 Poni* :crossfing

66Falconboy 03-02-2010 01:37 PM

It seems the only two scenarios here are...

1. Noone had any interest in Jones at all.

2. We're opening up roster spots in an attempt to possibly trade Hamhuis for 2 players.

Make any sense?

Nitrous Mafia 03-02-2010 02:55 PM

Wow

not happy about this

Roman Yoshi 03-02-2010 02:58 PM

Peter Mueller is being shopped... HARD. Can you imagine Mueller and Wilson on the same team! :amazed: Please Poile please! The future would look really bright!

he's not lived up to expectations, and is now rumored to be contemplating quitting hockey to become a priest. I'm not sure he'd be a wise investment.

A priest? Really? Well, at least we would have God on our side...

He is in the coach's dog house from what I've heard from PHX fans. He needs a change of scenery.

Paranoid Android 03-02-2010 03:38 PM

Can't say I'm all that surprised. Jones doesn't really do anything good. He's a great guy and all, but doesn't really serve a purpose. Can't kill penalties, defensive liability, not an offensive threat, can't take draws, doesn't fight, isn't all that big (but he plays big for his size). Only thing he was good at was drawing the occasional penalty... as long as he didn't take one first. In hindsight, we should have kept Fiddler over him, IMO.

BUT having said all that, I hope he clears because he still has some potential. He just lacks experience. Unfortunately, we can't continue to wait for him to get it. However, it would be nice to save a million dollars.

How was he misused? What is he good at that we didn't give him an opportunity to shine?

Considering everyone here jumped for joy when Peverley was waived, I'd say we are not the best judges of talent, lol. This is not a Peverley situation. Rich was actually good at a few things.

I still don't get why people think this is amusing. The fact that Poile was reluctant to trade him just shows that he saw great potential in him. He knew giving him up would be a mistake, but Pevs never broke out for us and we were forced to make a move.

Two nights on the town with Tootoo and he'd sign a new contract. Just saying.

101st_fan 03-02-2010 04:04 PM

How was he misused? Let's see, on pace for 13-14 goals per season (that's better than Fiddler's 11 goals a season) each year he's been a Pred, but only seeing ice half the time. Hovers around 4th-6th on the team in PPG/60mins TOI each season, yet isn't a regular member of the PP. Over 82 games, the difference between him and Goc this season comes out to less than 2 goals (.17goals/game vs .19goals.game). His 7 goals puts him just behind Goc on the team with 11 fewer games played. We complain about a lack of scoring ... a poor 5-on-4 PP ... then we take guys and bury them on a line with Belak then complain when they only put up 7 goals in 41 games.

Yet Goc is lauded for having a career season.

Pevs - 73 games as a Pred, 7g, 13a
Jones - 87 games as a Pred, 14g, 14a
