Michael Peca's Canada Roster For Sochi 2014

During the Tradecentre on TSN Michael Peca discussed who he thought would be on the 2014 roster. Its interesting to see that Mike Green is not there and Dany Heatley and some prospects from now like Duchene and Tavares.

Rick Nash - Sidney Crosby - Corey Perry
Eric Staal - Ryan Getzlaf - Jeff Carter
Mike Richards - Johnathon Toews - Jordan Eberle
Taylor Hall - Steven Stamkos - Wayne Simmonds
Brooks Laich

Drew Doughty - Duncan Keith
Tyler Myers - Dion Phaneuf
Brent Seabrook - Marc Staal
Shea Weber

Roberto Luongo
Marc-Andre Fleury
Steve Mason

Let's just hope he is not part of the actual decision process.

BrentZ10 03-03-2010 10:14 AM

Did he actually have a 24 year old who was one of the best players for the team this year as the number 7 D-Man?

JeromeHP 03-03-2010 10:15 AM

eberle over Duchene ? seriously

shortshorts 03-03-2010 10:16 AM

Is Peca actually choosing the team?

UFancyHuh 03-03-2010 10:16 AM

He played for Canada at the WJC.

devin1487 03-03-2010 10:23 AM

Right Right, my bad I was just remembering them making a big deal about one of the first from Texas

IslesBeBack* 03-03-2010 10:24 AM

ROFl. No Tavares or Duchene? In four years, these two players are going to be two of the best in the NHL.

Let's actually wait a few years, no? Plus, who is Mike Peca to suggest anything.

avengedsevenfold 03-03-2010 10:25 AM

Brooks Laich? Wayne Simmonds ? Phaneuf over Weber and Even Green ?
That team is brutal !

You need players like Brooks Laich to win...The guy plays every forward position, is great on face-offs, kills penalties, blocks shots, screens the goalie on the PP, drives the net, he even played some defence this year.

The guy does everything it takes to win.

TwoPadStack 03-03-2010 10:30 AM

Simmonds, Laich... what in the world?

Wheatking 03-03-2010 10:32 AM

It's one guys opinion. Lets all take a step back and calm down

Hurt 03-03-2010 10:33 AM

It's going to be a slow deadline.

Grabovski 03-03-2010 10:35 AM

You never know, who of thought that Toews or Bergeron would be on this years team in 2006 but they were, and for Toews was our best player. I don't expect Laich or Simmonds to make it over Tavares and Duchene but you never know. Plus Eberle is clutch ;)

Chairman Maouth 03-03-2010 10:37 AM

edit . nevermind

weems 03-03-2010 10:40 AM

I dont see why people are crapping on Simmonds. In 4 years he's going to basically be the player that Ryan Kesler currently is. You have to project. Sure right now he would be nowhere near that team but this kid is a really promising player that brings tons of intangibles similar to a Kesler/Richards.

JalapenoPeppa* 03-03-2010 10:51 AM

Laich isn't a horrible pick, but J Staal takes the spot over him.

Simmonds? Don't know enough about him other than he is improving, but that's a bold pick.

isles31 03-03-2010 10:52 AM

nobody thinks tavares will develop inthe next 4 yrs t the point where he can represent canada?

fronkjonk* 03-03-2010 11:03 AM

Eberle could be as good or better than Duchene in 4 years, so what is the big shock there?

Eberle has so much clutch that you gotta put him on the team.

Also, sure is a lot of Oilers on that team, sign of their future? :sarcasm:

Simmonds is on pace for a 20 goal, 50 point season as a 21 year old. Morrow at the exact same age recorded 20 goals, 44 points. Needless to say, Simmonds plays that exact same type of game and has the upside to be a bonafide power forward.

It may seem a like a huge reach at this point but Simmonds has some serious upside and there is a reason LA fans drool over him. Team Canada isn't going to just pick the 12 best scorers and it is possible that Simmonds will continue to develop to the point where he'll receive consideration as an intangibles player for Canada.

Canada's riding the Night Train to Sochi in 2014! :yo:

agreed. I can see one or two guys like Laich. Brendan Morrow doesn't have the offensive skill as some of the guys left off the 2010 roster but you see how effective he was.

Four years is a long time for these guys to develop. Obscure names can vault over blue shippers and poster boys can tumble. I mean, who in 2006 thought Phaneuf wouldn't be in Vancouver? But at this point I can also see Laich being there as a 13th forward, energy line player.

However, I don't see at this point how you can put Eberle over Duchene and Tavares. It's just a real stretch there.
