Bernier Injured - Back to Vancouver

Per Dan Murphy of SportsNet:

Bernier sent back to Vancouver with groin injury -- although he did take the optional morning skate today.

So that's why he's not playing tonight. And we were all speculating (hoping?) trade...

Nine to Five 03-03-2010 06:02 PM

Wasn't bernier injured the whole month?

Because I sure didn't see him on the ice.

JuniorNelson 03-03-2010 06:03 PM

He's been on the fourth line, where there is depth. No problem.

Zorbane 03-03-2010 06:03 PM

He's going back to Vancouver to find his missing balls.

LeftCoast 03-03-2010 06:04 PM

Good!

Now maybe Hansen will draw into the lineup.

I would not be surprised if he took it too easy during the break and was injured when he tried to step it up to get back to regular season pace.

He has had a past reputation for neglecting his conditioning which was hopefully a thing of the past... but now?

Bgav 03-03-2010 06:06 PM

well played.

hockeyfan125 03-03-2010 06:16 PM

Oh no!

Mr. Canucklehead 03-03-2010 06:16 PM

We still have a full roster, although it could be an apt time to call up Grabner. Give Demitra a linemate on the 3rd line, roll some scoring?

D. Sedin - H. Sedin - Burrows
Raymond - Kesler - Samuelsson
Grabner - Wellwood - Demitra
Hansen/Rypien - Johnson - Hordichuk

lush 03-03-2010 06:24 PM

Is there any way that Gillis can use this injury as an excuse to call up Hodgson on an "emergency basis" ?

I'd love to see him do that, give Hodgson a game to find out if he's even an option this season.

Kid_Roll 03-03-2010 06:26 PM

It really makes you wish Burrows had a twin. :(

Burrows would be a fantastic addition to our 3rd line.

Not sure why you'd bring Demitra down to the 3rd line after last game.

Double shift him?

The Big Foot 03-04-2010 09:46 PM

Career ceiling of Bernier = Jocelyn Lemieux.

Lucbourdon 03-04-2010 10:01 PM

who do we call up? please god grabner

Vector 03-04-2010 10:14 PM

There's a thread for this stuff.

God 03-04-2010 10:14 PM

What's the point of having a sticky thread for injuries if we're not going to post injuries in that thread?

I understand if it's about a season ending injury like Willie Mitchell (maybe), but minor things like this should just belong there, shouldn't they? This board seems way too cluttered these days.

Wetcoaster 03-04-2010 10:30 PM

Looks like this might be the dreaded sports hernia as it is not healing with rest.
Quote:

Steve Bernier, the Olympic break having done nothing to heal an ongoing groin problem, flew home on Wednesday after taking the morning skate at Joe Louis Arena.

He'll see a specialist in Vancouver.

"Bernie's groin hasn't been right," Alain Vigneault said after Wednesday night's win.

"We talked about it a long time this morning and felt it was a good time to get him back home and get another opinion."

Botchford is speculating as well:
Quote:

Steve bernier is in vancouver waiting to see an abdominal specialist Tuesday. Makes you wonder if it's a sports hernia.

Agent007 03-04-2010 10:38 PM

If it's a sports hernia how long will he be out for??

BoHorvatFan 03-04-2010 10:51 PM

If it is a hernia his season could very well be over.

I know we all want more from Bernier but come playoff time his size and hitting are very important. he played the body great last playoffs and we are SO small and soft up front we can't afford to lose him.
