And anyway, unproven prospects don't have much trade value (contrary to HFBoards believe) so it's much more likely a guy like Dubinsky will be moved if something of value is supposed to come back.

All of those guys mentioned, if it's in the cards for them, will be making the roster at different times. You can't really assess them together.

What is it going to be? Like a beat writter for ESPN specifically for New York? Or is this going to be a radio station/tv station?

Anyone who would like to contribute the Kreider goal video from yesterday? :naughty:

Oh my god Tomas Zaborsky has so much effing heart and effort it's just amazing. It would be just so super if he could play here next season. He would be just the perfect 1 or 2 liner.

I hope to god Rangers would leave him here.

wolfgaze 03-13-2010 12:48 PM

Was anyone able to watch the Wisconsin game?

I'm guessing he is playing well over there? What have you seen of his play? Good things bad things etc.

Yes. He's fast, he has hands, has very much effort and attitude. Well honestly I can't say anything bad about him either than his shot hasen't been the most accurate overall (40 games = 7 goals on 196 shots).

Side notes:
- He had problems with the system at first (understandable).
- After that he got very little ice time but still wanted to play very much.
- After those games of little ice time he has been producing (22 games 5+12=17 +4)
- He has jumped lines like a million times this season.
- Seen him play live 15 times + read alot of positive things about him and at this point he is one of fan-favorites. He has Patasydän (kinda like SISU) written all over him and that's (one of) the most important thing for a player in Ässät.

He has one more year left on his ELC. May be he comes back from training camp if he's doing that well, then finally puts up consistant numbers with the Pack, something he has not been able to do. If he produces at that level next season with the pack, then may be he gets a shot at the Rangers in 2012.

I think there's little chance that Zaborsky comes back to North America and if he does, there's probably not much chance that he ever becomes a Ranger. He was struggling just to get a full time spot at the AHL level. He played mostly in the ECHL and even there he struggled while in Charlotte, only improving once he was loaned out to another team.

I'm glad he's doing well over there. Hopefully it's a good situation for him.

Stepan with a goal and an assist after 2 periods, they are leading 4-2.

BC won 5-2 tonight to advance them, Kreider no points.

Just looking at some overall stats,

Stepan is 4th overall in points in the WCHA, 3 points away from being the league leader. 1st in assists in the WCHA.

In the entire NCAA, which I know isn't really fair since other leagues are easier then the WCHA, he is 3rd in points among 1st and 2nd year players.

UAGoalieGuy 03-13-2010 08:55 PM

Michigan won 5-3 tonight to advance to the next round of the CCHA playoffs. Hagelin had an assist. Big upset for Michigan, beating the #2 ranked Michigan State (#2 ranked in the CCHA, that is).

EDIT #2: Michigan will be playing the winner of the #1 seed Miami and #8 seed Ohio State. Ohio State won in OT tonight to force game 3.

UAGoalieGuy 03-13-2010 09:06 PM

Junior Prospect Update:

- Mitch Gaulton had a goal and two assists tonight.
- Werek has an assist so far tonight, with about 5 minutes left to go in the 3rd period.
- Klassen didn't play tonight for some reason.

Wisconsin is now up 6-2. Stepan has added another assist and has 1 goal and 2 assists tonight. There is about 5 minutes left in the 3rd period.

Does he honestly need another year in college? I think he has proved all he needs at the NCAA level.

Just looking at his vitals, but it looks like he needs to fill out a bit more before he makes the move to the professional ranks (6ft 176lbs). He needs to add another 10 to 15 lbs of solid muscle to help him in the AHL/NHL. Another season at Wisconsin wouldn't hurt him.

Levitate 03-13-2010 10:10 PM

doesn't really sound like he's ready to leave yet either. Another year in college can't really hurt him, I don't think

I think its important to remember a LOT of Stepans points are secondary assists on the PP. someone probably can figure out exactly how many, but a ton of his points simply come from touching the puck a second before one of his equally talented teammates does something with it.

Not trying to burst anyone bubble, but I do want to bring in some perspective here...for those of you who have seen him, you can attest to it...so many of his points are just him along the left circles doing a regular pass either to the point, or down low, and that puck is then moved cross ice for a 1-timer or a slam dunk. He wasn't the one who made the play, he's just the one who touched the puck before the primary play actually happened. Nothing bad about it, but it does need to be said.

Well, regardless of secondary assists, it's a great point that Stepan is playing with other go-to scorers. Namely Blake Geoffrion. he will most certainly have something to prove when he is the go-to first line center on that team. right now, he's on a line that is more like Line 1B. It will be a great test for him to be the go-to for a whole season. There's no need to rush him.

SupersonicMonkey* 03-14-2010 12:18 AM

I don't think its a coincidence that Stepan has been consistently racking up points everywhere and every level he plays (Shattuck, NCAA, WJC), be it secondary assists or not.

Secondary assist is not exclusive to Stepan. And they're an earned stat to a degree. Anyone can get them... But they don't, because they didn't.

I don't know if I'm explaining this well.

Point is, again, he racks points up everywhere he goes, because often times he's one of the better players on the ice.

I think the fact he is such a good two way player impacts his stats. Offense starts on the defensive side of the puck.

Good post.

Secondary assists or not, he is still involved, and involved often. And he gets as many primary assists as secondary ones. The guy is a playmaker.

Stepan doesn't play with Geoffrion.

Stepan plays with Ben Street and Michael Davies.

Wisconsin will find out their opponent later tonight.

They are playing the 3pm Friday game.

Regarding Stepan,he said his plan was to stay in school for another season but

Quote:

Stepan acknowledged that there's a possibility that things could change between now and the start of the 2010-11 season -- that he could play so well and the Rangers become so enamored that they push to sign him -- but he's locked onto one course of action.

"Right now, the plan is to stay and there hasn't been anything to even alter that plan at all,'' said Stepan, who's from Hastings, Minn. "I need another year, I feel like.

And the Rangers feel he needs another season before turning pro

There was speculation following the tournament that Team USA captain and Rangers' draft pick Derek Stepan would bolt Wisconsin to play junior hockey, but Slap Shots was told on Friday by a well-placed source that the center will complete his sophomore year with the Badgers.

The Blueshirts, we're told, believe Stepan needs another year of development either at school or in junior hockey before he's ready to turn pro

This was two months ago but plans could change. If the Rangers want to sign Stepan and made his advisor an offer,Derek would consider it. The Rangers haven't made him an offer yet.

You guys have bad memories. We discussed this topic. Did you remember to turn your clocks one hour ahead last night? Spring forward.

No, but my cell phone and cable box did automatically, thank God. lol

Michigan's huge upset over #2 seed (Ranked #10 nationally, in USCHO polls / 11th in the USA Today poll) Michigan State University may be one upped tonight if #8 seed Ohio State can defeat #1 seed (And ranked #2 nationally, in the USCHO polls / #1 in the USA Today poll) Miami in game three. If Miami wins, that is who they would be playing in the semifinals.
