Nick Boynton on re-entry waivers

Chicago's Nick Boynton on re-entry waivers, to replace Brian Campbell, is the only waiver wire activity today.

i wonder if a team might take him just to be a dick

Telos 03-16-2010 04:09 AM

It is quite a possibility. The Kings were looking for a veteran depth defenseman... I wouldn't be entirely surprised to hear them putting in a claim when all is said and done.

haha, that would be just typical. an injury replacement getting nabbed by another team and the hawks would still be paying half of the salary. talk about adding insult to injury.

vcx* 03-16-2010 05:02 AM

Ducks waived him and no one wanted him, I don't really see anyone wanting him now either. Most teams didn't make big moves to save cap space or because they didn't have any space.

Boynton's safe.

If that happened, Chicago would be paying what might equal a used 4 door sedan made between 2000-2009. I don't think they'd care.

Can waiver claims play in the playoffs this year (at this point in the season)?

it's the thought that counts.

Gudbranson44 03-16-2010 08:34 AM

the cats sure need him back... we have 6 defenceman atm, and one of them only gets aroudn a minute of playtime per game..
i wouldnt be surprised if the cats claimed him..

The Capitals.

Hyack57 03-16-2010 08:39 AM

Vancouver anyone? Alberts has looked like sh-ee-t thus far.

seanlinden 03-16-2010 09:05 AM

Personally I don't see why a team wouldn't claim him other than to avoid messing with Chicago. Cheap and can be an effective depth defenceman... you never know when someone is going to go down in the playoffs or in the remaining regular season.

Carlos Ranger 03-16-2010 09:13 AM

Fairly certain NYR will put a claim in.. and being 10th in priority, could see him winding up here.

No. Nor the regular season either. It would be a dick move against the Blackhawks & Boynton

Carlos Ranger 03-16-2010 10:50 AM

You're right, if a team claims him they can't play him at all. I found this from 2 years ago involving Toby Petersen.

Quote:

The process involving re-entry waivers changes after the trade deadline, as a team can claim Petersen for half price and place him on their NHL roster, but they cannot play him in the regular season or in playoff games for the remainder of the season. That allows teams to make call-ups like this without much risk of losing a player.
Strange, but I guess it could still make sense for a team that needs organizational depth. Call up a kid to play in the NHL, and Boynton taking his spot..

That's good

I had a fear a team would claim him (Canucks) and then Hawks would call up Cullimore and we would see a Sopel-Cullimore pairing :help:

Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News did some research on the topic & found that players claimed on waivers after the trade deadline can't play in the regular season either. Not the 1st time I've heard this.

But, as you say, it's a moot point now.

Vitto79 03-16-2010 05:25 PM

good news for the Hawks with Campbell today.......i guess, 8 weeks still sucks but its not like they aernt #1 or #2 no prob in the West..........Boynton was a good depth rental

Boynton's safe.

The interesting thing is now it is past the deadline. If you really want or need a 6th D-Man you can pick one up. There are now no other options. I doubt anyone picks him up to be a jerk. But maybe someone with a chance for the playoffs has a need and will pick up a veteran 6th D-Man.
