Ball Hockey Training

I am preparing for a ball hockey season and was wondering what types of training people do. Obviously, cardio is a big part and I've been going for daily runs to be sure I'm in shape but what else do you guys do?

Also, any drills that one could use in practice would be great too. Thanks!

I would add sprints into your running. When playing street hockey I was usually in pretty good cardio shape in that I could do well running a mile but hockey was more sprinting than just running and i would find mysellf getting tired very quickly because it is anaerobic instead of aerobic exercise.

That's true. I'm a great long distance runner but have to work on the short sprints

Good idea, you need to work both energy systems. Cardio is good to give you energy over a long time, but you also need to be able to generate short bursts of energy. Try wind sprints, also biking is good, especially if you can find hills.

I take the stairs a couple weeks before my ball hockey league starts, may not be an option for you but I live on the 11th floor of an apartment and have about 200 stairs to climb. I'll also jog for maybe a couple hundred meters and finish it off with a sprint.

I only live on the 4th floor of an apartment but have been taking that route whenever I leave my place. It seems like you're only getting warm at that point though haha. I'll give the biking a shot as well. Seems like it would help out a lot.

Thanks for the replies!
