Next Rangers/Islanders first game in history to be broadcasted in 3D

From the NY Times, per Kukkla's Korner...

Quote:

MSG Network will show next Wednesday’s Islanders-Rangers game in 3D, the first time a hockey game has been carried in the technology, the network said. It will be available to Cablevision subscribers and offered to other providers.

The game will also be shown on a screen at the Theater at Madison Square Garden.

For the game, five 3D cameras will be set up on platforms lower down in the arena than for high-definition broadcasts. “You produce 3D games differently,” said Mike Bair, the president of MSG Media. “And you have to hold shots longer and not cut as quickly.” Kenny Albert and Dave Maloney, the Rangers’ radio team, will shift to the 3D broadcast.

lol, I'll be at the game, but are people supposed to wear special glasses or something?

in 3D, people at home are going to be jumping every time a ranger shoots the puck, thinking they will get hit. it would be a different story if they were able to get the shot on NET occasionally.

So I'll feel like I can reach out and touch the terribleness that is these two teams.

Especially if you're at the Garden... There will be a giveaway before the game at the Garden. :sarcasm::laugh:

Rangers in 60 in 3D? Watch your Rangers lose again, but this time, in 3D. Oh yeah.

I'm going to try to reach out and squeeze Redden like a tube of toothpaste.

Henrik will be exhausted! and im not talking about the hockey game :sarcasm:

Trxjw 03-18-2010 09:18 AM

I'll get excited when 3D technology is something to be excited about.

pwoz 03-18-2010 09:19 AM

I'm still waiting for MSG HD on Fios in central NJ.

grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

The New Originals 03-18-2010 09:21 AM

I was pretty content with seeing this team blow in two dimensions, tbh.

Fitzy 03-18-2010 10:00 AM

How the hell does that work? We view the game from a sideways downward angle. Sounds useless.

Crease 03-18-2010 10:10 AM

This will either be awesome or the dumbest thing Dolan has done this week.

ogie 03-18-2010 10:20 AM

this is something the NHL should hop all over. If it is not too much to broadcast games in 3D. 3D tv sets are beginning to pop up all over the place and it might be a good way for the NHL to expand its viewership by being the first sport to broadcast its games in 3D.

IceBear86 03-18-2010 10:22 AM

I see people running through their living rooms, trying to catch Redden in order to show him some toughness. lol

Crease 03-18-2010 10:22 AM

So do we need special glasses to appreciate this thing? If so, I expect Cablevision to mail me a pair.

Either glasses or new TV, but first 3D TVs have not yet hit the shelves (at least in europe), still scheduled for later this year...

So I'm assuming there will be an HD broadcast for those of us who don't want to be bothered with finding the special 3D glasses needed to watch this thing?

Crease 03-18-2010 10:35 AM

http://msg.com/3d

So basically you need an MSG HD subscription and a 3D compatible TV. Or you can pay $20 to go to the viewing party at the MSG Theater.

Who out there has a 3D compatible TV yet? The technology is so new and I doubt anyone is going to buy one between now and the game just to see the broadcast.

3D TVs went on sale in the States last week. You still need glasses to watch them though.

Cathode Ray Tube here.

I'd like to know what the viewing experience is like.

I just don't see the appeal. It doesn't make things look like "real life" at all, it's just some weird, gimmicky effect. At least from 3D things I've seen before...yet to see a 3D TV...

KotsyJr 03-18-2010 11:57 AM

Oh, joy! Now I get to see the Rangers suck........ IN 3-D! :handclap:

DoTheBlue 03-18-2010 12:30 PM

We already have the Ranger games with 3D
