Would You Trade Parise for Malkin?

Let's just say the Pens are desperately looking for a winger to play with Sid, and have found that Staal can play 2nd line center for them. If they offered Malkin for Parise straight up, considering our weakness down the middle, would you make the trade?

I don't think I would. Malkin is more talented for sure, but I would venture a guess that Zach would win us more games. That, and the idea of playing against Crosby and Parise on the same line would make me sick.

Cowbell232 03-25-2010 08:49 AM

I want everyone to be clear in this thread.

Do not bash it. Do not ask why it's still here. Do not ask for it to be locked.

If you don't like it, ignore it. There's a button for that.

Cowbell232 03-25-2010 08:49 AM

Never, ever in a million years. Zach is the heart and soul of this team right now, and looks to be for quite some time.

Zajacs Bowl Cut 03-25-2010 08:50 AM

no, especially when you take contract into consideration

theking72 03-25-2010 08:50 AM

NO

Clear enough?

Saugus 03-25-2010 08:51 AM

It wouldn't happen, if only because Lou and Shero aren't crazy enough to trade superstars within the division.

And Parise is on a better contract (and probably will be even after next year) and is the future captain of this team. We aren't trading our franchise player, not even for Malkin. And if Kovalchuk walks this summer, our LW depth, which was previously our greatest strength, goes to ****.

cj225 03-25-2010 08:55 AM

Nope.

DEVILS ALL THE WAY* 03-25-2010 08:56 AM

Parise is all out hustle in every game he plays... Malkin doesn't play "all out" every shift and that reason alone should be enough.

EliasFTW 03-25-2010 08:56 AM

No, that is all.

ILikeItVeryMuch* 03-25-2010 08:59 AM

Nope.

vonbonds 03-25-2010 08:59 AM

It isn't always about pure talent. Malkin surely is more talented and physically gifted but like mentioned above Parise is the heart and soul of this team.

Brooklyndevil 03-25-2010 09:07 AM

You know Malkin, was last year's playoff MVP and is considered a top three player by most after Sid and Ovy. They say he's been injuried this season, can't prove or disprove, but he is a great player. Zach is my favorite player in the league because of how he plays game in, game out. So, it would be hard for me to trade him for anyone, but Malkin is enticing. The only negative on Malkin is that he's a $8 million dollar player, while I see Zach taking a home discount of around $6 million. Very hard choice but you may have to make this trade.

britdevil 03-25-2010 09:08 AM

Nope.

Nothing else really needs to be said.

Mr Bojanglez 03-25-2010 09:10 AM

I don't think its as clear cut as everyone makes it.

On Paper - yes. Taking contracts and intangibles into effect, it becomes harder

Big#D 03-25-2010 09:12 AM

even if you consider malkin to be a better player than parise, you have to look at the team dynamics. what would malkin do on the devils and what would parise do on the pens?

i'm not sure that malkin would make the devils any better. even if it did, it would be marginal.

however, crosby and parise together would be absolutely phenomenal.

the improvement to the pens far exceeds any possible improvement to the devils. why make your division rival better and not yourself?

Cowbell232 03-25-2010 09:16 AM

Is Malkin capable of leading a team on his own? I don't think so.

Is Parise? Yes.

BrodeurRULES 03-25-2010 09:27 AM

That is hard decision but I will say NO.

Come on. Look at what he did when Crosby was hurt in 2007-2008. He put up 106 points that season. Doing some basic research... Crosby missed the entire month of February that year. Malkin scored 26 points in 14 games for that same month, without Crosby.

I think we're severely undervaluing Malkin

i agree with you, but scoring points =/= leading a team

ask Joe Thornton

Like I said... I'd rather have a guy on my team that has a motor up his ass and plays the game exactly the same way if it's game #1 of the regular season or if it's game #7 of the SCP.

When your top players plays "balls out" every single shift of every single game, you can't ask for anything better IMO and that's what we have in Parise. Malkin on the other hand has a little more skills but isn't the "grinder" Parise is and will never be.

Darius Dangleaitis 03-25-2010 09:35 AM

As much as I like Malkin, nope.

Oroku Saki* 03-25-2010 09:36 AM

Only if Guerin was thrown in :sarcasm:

Babycakes92689 03-25-2010 09:41 AM

besides the fact that he's the heart and soul of this team and future captain, like someone else said, i think pens would benefit MUCH more having parise with crosby than we would with whoever we put out there with malkin.

Dr Grant 03-25-2010 09:41 AM

I'm not really sure. We have great wingers, so adding one of the top centers in the NHL would be a huge upgrade to our offense if it means losing our 2nd best forward. I don't know if I'd do it though. Zach has had great success with this team and we just don't know how Malkin would pan out.
