Oleg Saprykin name pronunciation

how do you pronounce his last name?

i always thought it was

s-ah-preh-kin

but the espn guys say

suh-pri-kin

Lard_Lad 05-04-2004 12:30 AM

NHL Guide says sah-PRIH-kihn.

EDIT: Although now that I think about it, if I remember my Russian right the fact that the first "a" isn't stressed means it ought to be pronounced "suh".

johnny cool 05-04-2004 12:34 AM

BruinsGirl 05-04-2004 11:10 PM

I am Russian too.

It's not -ee- or -i- sound.

This is how this last name looks in Russian: CanpblkuH (H should be smaller)

There is letter bl in Russian that doesn't really have an equivalent in English.

It kind off sounds like A in R[A]RE or SH[A]RE.

Hellsempire 05-05-2004 12:28 AM

That is some freakin' name. LOL! He is a good player...

oh. HAHHAHAHAH. I thought he was CanpukuH

yeah

then it's actually impronounceable in english :)

The only way to describe it is picture the way A changes from "Bake" to "Share" - u kind of clench your jaw more.
bl changes the same way but for the ee sound - from "Bill" to "B bl ll".

Kronblom 05-05-2004 09:21 AM

Pretend that you are russian and say Oleg Saprykin, without the english accent... ;)

I Hate You All* 05-06-2004 05:30 PM

pavel13 05-06-2004 06:33 PM

Why don't we just call him Sparky?
