Kings Sign NMU Forward Ray Kaunisto

Judging from his numbers, Kaunisto appears to be a late blooming power forward.

Meh.

VictoryRose 03-31-2010 10:17 AM

stomped people's faces in the USHL for a year.
Chose a pretty bad ncaa program to play for in as far as development, but no one had any real idea on his potential. His frame never filled out either. NMU blech. they were pretty marginal the whole time he was there. marginal program overall.
it's a big "we'll see." He's smart, and Dean loves players that can walk and chew gum at the same time. Needs to eat something.

Ziggy Stardust 03-31-2010 10:27 AM

Apparently the Flyers were pursuing him according to his former USHL team's website.

Dave33 03-31-2010 10:30 AM

Good size, would be nice if this year is just the tip of his potential. Seems like a solid bottom six forward if he pans out.

He will be reporting to the Kings: http://eupnews.com/2010/03/sault-loc...with-la-kings/

Wonder if he'll appear in a game. Last year, the Kings signed Elkins and he was listed on the roster but never appeared in a game. Years ago when Piskula was signed, he appeared in a handful of games.

Dave33 03-31-2010 10:46 AM

Ziggy, where did you see the Flyers thing? I checked that USHL site and didn't see anything.

The word also is former RoughRider Ray Kaunisto is close to signing with an NHL team, quite possibly the Philadelphia Flyers. Kaunisto just completed a four-year college career at Northern Michigan, scoring 17 goals this season. He played in Cedar Rapids in the 2005-06 season.

Gentle Ben Kenobi 03-31-2010 10:59 AM

I was wondering if we were going to sign any college UFA's this year.

Buddy The Elf 03-31-2010 11:02 AM

Talk about the most boring place ever, the U.P. is it.

JMFJ 3 03-31-2010 11:03 AM

Manchester fodder, might get into a game or two if we clinch early but then he'll get firmly entrenched into the AHL.

JDM 03-31-2010 11:07 AM

Great, someone else who played in Michigan... temper your twitters, they may overload.

He's a big boy, like his size.

BigBrown 03-31-2010 11:47 AM

Maybe a diamond in the rough, who knows. He certainly is big enough.

If he can help by being one of the top scorers in Manchester like Elkins then it isn't an overall bad signing.

Ziggy Stardust 03-31-2010 01:18 PM

It's now official. Press release:

Cat1025 03-31-2010 02:55 PM

So that's why we signed him. In this interview, he's says that he's got a broken thumb and collar bone.
