Article: A case of tough love Lee Sweatt learned to get tough by skating into a punching bag. Now he can dish it out and take it.
The first "player" Colorado College's Lee Sweatt defended against was a giant.
"We got a huge boxing bag in the basement when I was little," Sweatt said, putting his arms out in front of him to demonstrate its girth. "My dad would swing the bag back and forth and I would skate into it and try to hit it.
"My dad was a linebacker in football, and he told me that at (defense), you can control the game more than at forward. You can stop them, the onus is on you, it's kind of like a quarterback. You start the play, break it out."
But Sweatt is no longer a 9-year-old kid on roller skates, dodging the bag in his basement. Instead the shifty sophomore hits opponents when …
Interesting... younger brother Bill is a Hawks prospect.

Hrm. I remember hearing there was some interest from NHL teams for this kid back in like 2006 when he was having pretty strong NCAA campaigns, but I guess nothing ever came of it. Weird signing, I wonder how this guy came to be on our radar.

This dude is a small d-man... puts up a lot of points, 24 years old...
Can't be any worse than some of the guys on the Moose.

5'8, but 200 pounds? Holy ****.

If you search his name on youtube, you will see a lot of videos of him, although it is mostly press conferences. Most of them are with his TPS, and he seems to be a leader on that team. I am guessing to help shore up the Moose blue line next season, as he is a decent puck mover for the looks of it.

The Kyle Wellwood of defense.

Ok, ya I remembered him being mentioned in the usual 'Unsigned NCAA Players to Watch For' threads back in like 2006/2007...

His brother Billy, a highly touted player in his own right, will also be at CC this fall and from what I understand is definitely well worth keeping an eye on.
Given that was now around 3.5 years ago so who knows what he's done since then.

Perhaps a signing to make Schroeder look bigger? :sarcasm:
No idea who this guy is but hopefully it bolsters the Moose for next year at least.

Wow, how random. I for one have never heard of this guy before. Although looking him up he's had a really interesting career. It's got to be a Moose signing, but obviously the guy wouldn't mind trying to take a shot at something bigger. He's KHL stats are interesting, but I haven't a clue whether he's a defensive d-man or what so having never seen him play it's impossible to say.
Such a Gillis type signing lol

I like this signing. The guy has put up really good numbers in the FNL both this season and in 2007-08. He's short but he's obviously built like a fire hydrant.
