Division + Conference Standings- Division Standings
- Conference Standings

Overview
Extra Information The Detroit Red Wings currently sit in sixth place in the Western Conference standings, with their 93 points equaling a one-point lead over the seventh-place Kings, a one-point deficit against the fifth-place Predators, a four-point cushion on the eighth place Avalanche, and an eight-point deficit in arrears of the Central Division-leading Chicago Blackhawks.
The Wings enter the final seven games of the regular season with a first of three games against the Columbus Blue Jackets (7:30 PM, FSD/WXYT), and the Wings talked about the possibility of catching the Blackhawks, thanks in no small part due to their fantastic March record, with the Detroit News's Rob Beard...
April 1, Detroit News: "It's real tight in the West. The separation between teams over an 82-game schedule isn't very much," coach Mike Babcock said. "We all have our moments in the year where we've been good and where we haven't been good."
The Blackhawks have struggled recently -- posting a 3-5-2 record in 10 games before beating the Wild Wednesday -- enabling the Wings to close the gap.
"They've gotten injured and we were injured all year, so we understand what that's like," Babcock said. "It's hard to play at the top of your game without a lot of key people."
"It's almost like a playoff situation for us in March, where we had to win games. We couldn't continue to play .500 hockey," Nick Lidstrom said. "It helps you to get going again once the playoffs start. If you're in our situation, that can carry you to the playoffs, if you're forced to play good hockey in the last 10-15 games.

The Wings discussed their burgeoning level of confidence as a key contributor to their 5-4 win over the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday while speaking with the Free Press's Helene St. James...

April 1, Detroit Free Press: "That's just how we feel right now -- there can be ups and downs during a game, but we don't panic and just stick it out till the end," Brad Stuart said Wednesday. "Confidence is one of those things that, a lot of times you can tell when you're playing a team that doesn't have it. It's just kind of obvious, and I think we're a team that has it right now. And when you have confidence, you just do things without even thinking about it -- you just go."
Stuart just went for it Tuesday, driving the middle so he was in position to deflect Pavel Datsyuk's shot for the winner with 1:37 left in regulation.
"I think that game, especially late, shows a lot more what our team is like," Nicklas Lidstrom said. "Early in the season we could have easily lost a game like that, but now we stuck with it and found a way to win."

TG can't do tonight's GDT, so I will step in. Sorry for you superstitious ones, but this time he can't help it. Full comments and my thoughts will come soon too. :)

Thanks for your patience and support!

edit: btw, feel free to start any pre-game talk. If you have any suggestions too (news, gossip, videos, pictures) you want me to include in the fun-stuff or something, PM me and I'll see if it's appropriate and I'll add it in for everyone to see.

doublejack 04-01-2010 02:25 PM

I got a last minute ticket thrown my way, so I'll be at the game tonight. Here's hoping the streak continues.

TOPGUN 04-01-2010 03:47 PM

Thanks for stepping up ProPain. Just got home from practice, looking forward to your GDT :)

hey TG, did you guys win the important game you talked about last week(?) in one of the GDTs?

Nordic* 04-01-2010 04:08 PM

Hattie for Z tonight.

ESunlin 04-01-2010 04:09 PM

They better win tonight- I'm not a happy camper.

As soon as I shower and get this grime off me, I'm starting in on my 6-pack of Oberon and plan to have it gone soon after.

cool, congratulations!

So, let's hope the Wings can get another W tonight! Not sure I'm staying up, don't have to work tomorrow, though...we'll see.

Go Wings!

Thanks, it was great to be finally healthy again for a full year. That hasn't happened in a long time.

And the same goes for me. Donít know if I'm able to stay up till 01:30, will see.

ESunlin 04-01-2010 04:34 PM

Tomas Kana?

I hope that's it, I'm not going to be useful for much longer.

ESunlin 04-01-2010 04:35 PM

P.S. Clitsome is the WORST name ever. Period, end of story.

Tomas Kana is correct:laugh:

Hint: all the mistakes are in the opposition stats and roster. one is obvious, the other is a little harsh on my behalf. Once you give up I'll tell you. :)

ESunlin 04-01-2010 04:46 PM

I give up. I've had three swigs of vodka from the bottle and I'm on my second glass of SoCo and Dr. Pepper.

I suppose I should come with a warning label.

ProPAIN 04-01-2010 04:47 PM

Well, Columbus are playing conference spoilers so I hope they fail against us. While editing the Columbus roster, I said to myself, they only have two dangerous lines. The Nash line probably gets the most points but Voracek and co. are not too bad either.

This time I hope we don't give Steve Mason (who is having quite a bad sophomore year) another SO. That would be embarrassing.

Good luck Red Wings, I'll try to stay up and watch the game, we'll see. Enjoy guys!

Doesn't he already have them?

He probably does. But what does 10 lb more to his current 218 matter anyway right?

btw, I was thinking of doing an April Fools theme/thing/stuff, but I can't think of anything clever or funny. so too bad.

ESunlin 04-01-2010 04:57 PM

Ok, I might be a... uh.... aware.. of the players, but I don't know all their weights and junk.

That borders on creepy.

Yeah, last game I stayed up till 4 am cause the Wings decided to go into epic fail mode for the third period and I couldn't stop watching. Oh well. I'll try to watch the first period maybe.

You drinking last year's Oberon, or did you get this year's recipe that came out two days ago?

Just curious, because Bell's seems to be doing more tweaking in recent years. Two Hearted is still my favorite, but it used to be better. I suspect they left Oberon alone.
