THN: Getting to know Blair Betts

Status: Philadelphia Flyers center

Ht: 6-foot-3 Wt: 210 pounds

DOB: Feb. 16, 1980 In: Edmonton

Early Hockey Memory: "My first year of pro we (St. John Flames) won the Calder Cup (2001). We played the Penguins farm team, Wilkes-Barre."

Hockey Inspirations: "I'd probably say my family is my biggest inspiration now. The thing I love most about the game is being a part of the team, playing for your teammates, the camaraderie and goofing around and joking with the boys. I guess my favorite player growing up was Steve Yzerman."

HoverCarle* 04-04-2010 09:43 PM

thanks for this

Greatest Sports Moment: "Just scoring my first NHL goal against Minnesota (2002). Craig Berube was in on it. My first NHL game."

Bobby Taylor, current Tampa Bay analyst, ex-Flyer, was a recent feature, too.

Status: Former NHL goaltender for the Philadelphia Flyers and Pittsburgh Penguins from 1971-76. Currently serves as Tampa Bay Lightning TV commentator.

Ht: 6-feet-1 Wt: 180 pounds

DOB: Jan. 24, 1945 In: Calgary

First Hockey Memory: "Out in my backyard, four years old, with my brother (Fred), who was a lot older than me and Hank Bassen, the old Detroit Red Wing, Chicago Black Hawk and the first draft pick of the old Pittsburgh Penguins, they had me out there; shooting frozen tennis balls at me. I remember them bouncing off my head and they really stung. And when you're four you start to whimper a bit. And my brother said, ‘If you cry I'll kick your butt harder than these tennis balls are.’ So that's my first memory (smiles)."

Hockey Inspirations: "Hank Bassen and Glenn Hall."

So both Richie and Betts like Tragically Hip.

Nice. Getting Betts is one of the best moves in the last few years. The perfect 3rd/4th/PK type player.

he has a career high in points this year too

Funniest Player Encountered: "When I played with Steve Coates in Richmond, he was that kind of guy."

Thanks for posting that RangerFan, I have never seen these before. There are some other one's that are relatively recent including Gagne, Emery, Craig Berube, and Carcillo.

Thanks for posting this! I agree, Betts was a terrific pickup. Just goes out, does his job, does it well, and carries on.

One of my favorite players.

Guy plays with heart so much. Lappy as well.

Betts is awesome.

Not sure who this guy is, but he was retweeted by philabright:

My numbers have Blair Betts as the NHL's top defensive forward. Not sure how you pull that off on the Flyers, but there you go.

I have a good friend that loves the Rags. He was so annoyed when we picked betts up.

Blair Betts is still the master

I'm from New York so I'm surrounded by Rags fans... they all were pissed to see Betts leave, especially to the Flyers. It didn't help that I made sure to rub it in :naughty:

The best part about it is that he's been better than anyone could have imagined he would be.

J.J. Daigneault's "Getting to Know" page...

Embarrassing Hockey Memory: "When I was a young kid, 20 years old playing with the Flyers, I bought a VCR on the street in New York. And when I went up to my room I had two bricks in the box (laughs). So that was embarrassing. I paid $60 for the package and I ended up paying $30 a brick."
