Russia at the 2010 World Championship

With Malkin and Datsyuk out of the WC for the NHL playoffs (and probably deep cup runs for both their teams), what is the word on whether or not Russia's other 2 Olympic centers will carry the team for the WC?

Fedorov had a great Olympics with 4 pts in 4 games on Radulovs line, and Zinoviev underperformed but surely is expected to do better against teams like Latvia and Kazakhstan.

Has any word on either of these guys been announced?

In my opinion, based on skill and merit, they should be the #1 and #2 centers for this Russian WC team.

Zinoviev can redeem himself for the Olympics now that he is healthy and Fedorov can teach the up and comers one final time in preparation for Socchi 2014.

Zinoviev played very well in Olympics, at least up until his injury. I thought Fedorov looked his age.

Anyhow, Zinoviev hasn't recovered from his injury and wont play at WC And I doubt Fedorov will either. I think the Olympics was his 'last hurrah' with the NT.

Probably see these 4:
Tereschenko
Kuryanov
Gorovikov
Anisimov

Sergei Makarov 04-13-2010 01:29 AM

Denis Parshin should make the team.

Sad news about Zinoviev. Is he having surgery or what it the deal?

And as for Fedorov, has he stated he will not play or is it still up in the air?

I hope he does

Any update on whether Fedorov wants to go or not?

Looks like Kovalchuk will be available. Bad news for the Devils, great news for Team Russia!

A Kovalchuk-Fedorov line could still do great things, anyone remember how they won the tournament back in 2008?

SvenskaRiga 04-24-2010 01:05 AM

Russia dosnt play Latvia, not in same group, you are thinking about Belarus.

Pavel Lysenkov says Kovalchuk may miss the WC. As for Parshin, hope to see him on the roster.

Alessandro Seren Rosso 04-25-2010 03:19 AM

I don't really think this year Kovy will come.

NMF78 04-25-2010 03:24 AM

I heard Morozow is out for the year? Seems there are quite a lot of absentees for this years WC.

RusskiyHockey 04-25-2010 01:31 PM

Fedorov will likely be there... he's on the EuroTour roster.

MaxV 04-25-2010 01:40 PM

I hope to see Emelin there. He has been a BEAST so far in KHL playoffs.

Yes. Team Russia will be without all Zaripov, Zinoviev and Morozov :(

Yesss! I hope they reunite him with Radulov, they clicked exceptionally well for a 4th line.

If Malkin, Dats, and Zino are all gone Feds will be Russia's #1 center, at age 40. :yo:

This is not good news.

Hopefully Kovalchuk will lend a helping hand, he may want to increase his value this offseason?

Kovy did have a good playoffs and season though, so he may just be happy with that...

Kovalchuk is currently without a contract. If he gets hurt hes screwed.

And that means..?

Fedorov was in this position just before the 98 Olympic Games.

He went, no biggie.

Considering today's interview with sport express it looks like Kovalchuk is now considering WC partecipation...let's hope for the best

I have little interest in this year's WC (may be I'll pick it up during the tournament)! I think Kovi should take care of his career - first!

Sergei Makarov 04-26-2010 03:23 PM

I would feel very dissapointed if Kovalchuk didn't take part in the WC. What is more important: Money o glory? If he is a true patriot, he will play.

It's because of his wife and son I'd say

SvenskaRiga 04-27-2010 02:23 AM

I would of loved to see Volchenkov go but he has said he wont go but Frolov got an invite, any one think we could see him come?

Alessandro Seren Rosso 04-27-2010 02:32 AM

Bykov said he wants to talk with him, I guess he might go

cska78 04-27-2010 07:28 AM

Parshin got cut from the team, but I am sure we will see some old "кляча" from SU

Wings4Life 04-28-2010 10:17 PM

Caps Lose WOW...Ovechkin and Semin headed to WC?

Reunite the 2008 Gold Medal Line, Ovechkin-Fedorov-Semin! :yo:
