5/5 Discussion - Best Wild Draft

Along the same lines as yesterday's discussion, the Wild have had some great drafts in the past. So which draft was the best one?

I vote for 2000 since we got Gaborik, the best player in our team's history (besides Koivu), but we also got Schultz which we like to give a lot of crap about him, but it's been pointed out numerous times that he's not that bad of a defender and has been with us since the start.

2007 is easily our best draft as of late being that 4 of the 5 picks in that draft are now playing in the AHL. I think we are all hoping for the 2010 draft to be our best.

I wouldn't say any of them have been great, but 2001 wasn't bad. Finding Veilleux and Boogaard in later rounds was nice, even if they're both role players. Recently we've had some good second rounders in Scandella and Hackett, and Haula might be a heck of a player down the road.

Hackett wasn't a second rounder ;)

I would say 2001. Koivu, Veilleux, Boogaard. Wanvig played for a spell and Heid was at least traded.

Dang, even better. Then I could say third rounders like Hackett and Clutterbuck :D

Here's hoping that the correct answer to this question in 10 years will be, "why, 2010 of course!"

I went with 2000 over 2001 because the Wild have gotten more out of Schultz and Sekeras than Veilleux and Boogaard.

I agree with this man.

Although the picking positions were the best ever, 2000 netted us a superstar and a good defensemen. We made the right choice in Gaborik, and Schultz is about best player selected in that 2nd round.
