Missing Cammalleri

Mike is showing he IS a clutch performer in the playoff.
Yesterday he had another great game, with 2 beautiful goals.
So far he has 11 goals and 16 points in 13 games.

I hated seeing him traded...and now that trade looks even worst, with Teubert still far from being even an AHLer.

xavi4life 05-11-2010 05:40 PM

We never should have traded Larry Murphy, Paul Coffee, and/or the pick that led to Boston drafting Ray Bourque!!!

Boooooooo!!!!!!

I love what Dean's doing, but everyone lays an egg sometimes.

Btw, your post clearly shows a huge intelligence.
I'm impressed.

Buddy The Elf 05-11-2010 05:52 PM

Yeah it is becoming pretty clear that he blew that one. Michael is everything people want in Kovalchuk. Sure Kovalchuk is a better player but Michael was homegrown and would likely have cost less.

Reaper45 05-11-2010 05:54 PM

Not this again. Let it go Albi.

LOL...I knew you were going to say it Sean

It's no big deal for me, but someone made a mistake about him.

Look: A we're "Missing Cammalleri" Thread and I didn't start it.

(Although its not like I havent hijacked enough other threads on this point)

;)

Yes.

Telos 05-11-2010 06:09 PM

No mistake has been made until the draft pick busts or pans out. For all we know, Teubert turns into Adam Foote, then the mistake would undoubtedly be yours for being impatient. Not to mention we may end up with someone infinitely better than Cammy in a month and a half for the grand total of free under a similar debilitating cap hit. *Braces for Legionnaire Cammy versus Kovy rebuttal*

Wounds are so much easier to deal with when they aren't continually fed a healthy supply of salt.

Have you checked what Cammalleri is doing? A Foote-like player is very useful, but no way has the same value of a pure sniper like Cammy in his prime.

KingsCast 05-11-2010 06:15 PM

Cammy was never going to re-sign in LA anyway.

Uncle Sam 05-11-2010 06:16 PM

Teubert could have a huge season in the future! Stay positive Kings fans!

redcard 05-11-2010 06:18 PM

He had 1 year left on his deal, even if we hadn't traded him he probably still wouldn't be a King right now and everyone would be whining about how we let Cammy walk without getting anything back.

Everyone here was certain he would leave when his contract expired to play in a large Canadian market.

Of course, but that makes it an overpayment, not a mistake. So he didn't maximize the asset, doesn't make it some debilitating mistake. We have a 5th overall, a 2nd overall, and a 3rd overall puck moving defenseman on the depth chart, not to mention a couple of other promising puck movers slightly lower. The last thing this organization needed was a puck moving defenseman... So Dean drafted on need.

Cammy wasn't going to remain with the Kings, at least not for a price that suited us at the time. For all we know, we got something for nothing, I doubt having Cammy would have brought us to the playoffs that year either way, and we were competitive until the final month of the season, so Dean would have likely held onto him.

It would have been nice if he had traded him sooner, but it was obvious that Dean wanted to try and keep him, but Cammy wanted to go back to Canada, so he did, and we moved up in the draft because of it. Such is hockey. We still have a decent prospect out of it who is still in the middle of his development. We overpayed, but he is our primary stay-at-home prospect in the organization behind the likes of Scuderi, Greene, and O'Donnell.

FrozenKing18 05-11-2010 06:21 PM

wWhy didnt we get him last offseason?

SHOULDA COULDA WOULDA BUT DIDN'T...

I am probably the biggest supporter of Teubert but Cammy is everything this team is missing right now. The way he was handled is the biggest reason why I'm not sold on DL yet.

Haik 05-11-2010 06:37 PM

Who cares? He was never going to sign with us anyway. Plus I still don't like him....

so you would have been sold on him if he had let Cammy walk at the end of his contract and got nothing for him?

LOMBARDI: ``It doesn't surprise me that he's scoring up there. We had to make a conscious decision, based on the type of culture we wanted here, the type of player I wanted to use to set the identity of this franchise and, thirdly, signability. We answered those questions. Am I surprised that he's on a 40-goal pace, up there in his contract year with Iginla? We all know the kid can score goals.

``I wasn't trading a 20-goal scorer. I was a little surprised I didn't get a little more action on him, but I think the reason was that he's a one-year asset, to any team we were talking to. They didn't want to inherit the same problem I was having. Now Calgary's got that issue right now. It's like a double-edged sword. I don't think it's any secret where he really wants to go, so what do I want that problem for?''

"I'm really excited. I've always kind of wanted to come back and play in Canada so this is a great opportunity. It's great to be able to compete for the Cup. I love the team that we have," said Cammalleri.

"I had a great time playing in L.A., don't get me wrong, but when I got to Calgary and got to play in front of those fans, in that atmosphere, it was great and I knew that's what I wanted to do during my next contract," he said. "To be able to play in a place like Calgary and Canada where people bleed hockey, the passion is so high every game, that was something I never had and it was just such a great experience."
All you really need to know.

Seriously.

/thread.

p.s. if we win the Cup before Montreal or whatever Canadian team he plays for, I will be sure to send him a gift wrapped go **** yourself.

xavi4life 05-11-2010 08:26 PM

Cammalleri also has family in Montreal, he was going to leave as soon as he could. The real debate would be whether or not Tyler Myers was a better pick...

Lombardi was never gonna sign that greedy midget at the price he wanted.

Ziggy Stardust 05-11-2010 08:44 PM

He was intent on going to free agency. Calgary found that out as well. The End.
